Nope, this stuff is insane. Most of it is either useless or a total gimmick that is "cool" but will do next to nothing to actually make your life easier. Some smart devices are useful, but it's getting ridiculous. The smart shower... can you really not just turn the water on when you get out of bed or yell at your kid to get out of the shower? lol
Am I the only one sick of everything having to become 'smart'? We've survived pretty well with a lot of dumb stuff up to this point. Does every product/gadget we own have to be connected to the internet?
I have a friend who has several dozen smart devices (mostly light bulbs but plenty of other stuff) and he describes how great they are, and I can't help but think no matter how much money I have, I don't need to waste it on most of these devices. Like I said, some are definitely useful, but most offer barely any added convenience. I imagine there are many better things that people could be coming up with.I see your point. But the whole point of these smart Home innovations is strictly convenience and a short cut. That's it. Nothing more. Being the price point on some of these products, expendable income plays a roll as well with the affording it.

I don't know that everything has to be connected to the internet, but doing so does allow for some level of convenience that some would want. Case in point is the FeetMe insoles. I use orthotics now and I walk around 5 miles a day (I don't own a car). If the sensors do as they claim and give me information that would allow me to walk better - reducing knee or back strain - that seems like it could be a good product. Having the sensors in the insole connect to my phone makes total sense. The internet connectivity only makes sense if I want to share the data with my podiatrist so that he can monitor a particular issue we are discussing. But certainly I would want the ability to turn that off.Am I the only one sick of everything having to become 'smart'? We've survived pretty well with a lot of dumb stuff up to this point. I have 5 LIFX bulbs. I got them bc I was gifted the first one and like that they're currently much brighter than the Hue bulbs. It'd be nice if they worked with HomeKit but at least they work with Alexa and the LIFX app is significantly better than the Philips app IMO. That is one thing I really do enjoy, because it's amazing what lighting can do to a room. Plus they'll last as long as I keep them and use less energy in the process vs. a cheaper/non-LED bulb.I plan in investing in the Philip Hue lights, but these other products are not refined and mature enough to invest in. At least not from a demo until user tested.
I prefer my dumb shower over a smart shower any day. Last thing I need is Siri or Alexa or Cortana or Google listening to me argue with myself and provide feedback.

Yeah a lot of this "smart" stuff is a little goofy, but I have to admit I do think our "smart" washer and dryer is pretty cool. I can see it for bigger appliances, but don't need it for every little thing in my house.
It does seem very science-fiction-y though![]()

Welp, I guess this is where I become too old to care about new tech.
I always knew it would happen eventually, I just through I'd be a bit older.

It's a stupid buzzword. Just like 'Retina' for what basically means high resolution. Marketers and advertisers are some of the most useless people on the planet for such reasons.
