Why is everyone so mad at this thing?

I was considering moving back to windows, but I will stick to my rMBP14 2014 for a while. But if all of portables apple is offering are TB gimmicks, then I will reconsider once more. And if I could buy this thing right now, I wouldn't have to consider any more, I would buy it in a heart beat.

Why you ask?

Well I travel a lot. A lot! And I am a developer. I love dual/triple screen setups, but of course, I don't bring any monitors with me. 12 pounds you say? Well, I don't care frankly, coz once this beast reaches my desk, it would stay there as long as I'm in town.

And for mobile purposes, macbook 12 is more then enough. I love the concept, I would gladly pay Apple 10 000$ for this kind of a thing. But of course, Apple is innovating by removing ports, installing complete gimmicks (touch bar) in their laptops, ruining battery life, etc. They have too much on their plate (money of course) to even try to innovate.

Well done Razer, I really hope that this thing won't just stay as a concept.

Lol.

3. Is this really what you want from Apple? Giant, three-screened vaporware?

The pertinent word is 'trying'. Microsoft are 'trying' to redefine the desktop with the Surface Studio and Razer are 'trying' to show us something new in the laptop arena and whether Apple choose to adopt or not, they are, if not potential gamechangers, 'Something Different' - I've heard that somewhere before; Apple are 'trying' to p*ss everyone off by launching products of little significance compared to what's already out there and are actually doing it quite well. If it's courage that people are craving for from Apple, nothing shows courage more than telling everyone that Lightning is the audio standard by binning the 3.5mm jack on the iPhone and then re-instating it on the Macbook Pro. That's REAL innovation! God, I hate all the Apple bashing going on lately - but it's pretty deserved as far as Macs are concerned.

Dear Apple,

This is what courage looks like. Not just removing ports and audio jacks that millions use. Granted it's ugly as sin but at least they are trying.
No, this is what stupid looks like. It will fail, unlike the products you ham-handedly criticized.

Not sure if you're being a smartass or just ignorant. This has nothing to do with Razor scooters.

Razer is the company making machines sleeker than Macbooks with high-end gaming components. In beautifully engineered cases. Pay attention because these are the guys disrupting the mac business.

Do they also make high-end scooters sleeker than Razor scooters to help transport gamers to their next gaming meet-up?

I think video editors, technical analysts, and other pros that need bigger screens and travel may buy this regardless of the price. They should market this to the pros.

This is massive... I really like the concept. Razer is doing a great job lately...

"Expansive", or "Expensive"?!
Well, both...
That laptop isn't meant for an on-the-go business person to go to starbucks.
No, it isn't. But that wouldn't stop me from taking it there -preferably setting it up right next to someone with one of the new MBPr's... Just to see peoples reactions... XD

B2T: I think this is great for work as well. If I'd really need a portable office with lots of screen real estate, I would seriously consider this. Imagine this with Pro-Software. I think there is market for such devices outside the gaming sector.

um, maybe i am ocd, but did you guys look at the keyboard? Shifted to the left instead of center? really? and the mousepad on the right, so no left-handed people can use this? did you say 12 tons?

I am left handed and I do appreciate light laptops since I travel enough that it makes a difference. I read all the comments about gamers, but even here, this seems like a hard sell to me.

Yea, I guess they should be working on their own 'smart' wearables with Mickey Mouse face on it. Now that's where the innovation is :D

Lol .. I see PROs disappointed with the new MBPs are drooling over this... How is the battery life ? Does it live up to the manufacturers claim of 'up to 10min' or does it fall short ??

Battery life, I'm massively curious how something like that would do. Also, that would be one heck of a laptop to tote around with you. I'm pretty sure for the price you could get a similar desktop setup for less.

I'd guess this is geared towards a certain audience I'm not privy to.

Correct, everyone is trying to be innovative, but only Apple is.
Sarcasm. I like that.

Point is, a desktop isn't that portable -not even my tiny ITX machine. A "Desknote" (desktop-notebook) such as this is basically a portable workstation. Imagine you have to work a month here and a month there. Do you want to take your 3 22" desktop screens in your checked luggage? Good luck!
This machine practically portable. A desktop isn't. This makes a huge difference and can justify a high price. Something like a large battery -or let's better call it UPS- isn't even necessary for those machines. Although, with a single screen and IGP only this should have decent battery life if they put in large cells (which imho is wasting space in such a device).

How's the battery life on the 15" MBP? Living up to the manufacturers claim of 10 hours?

It won't fail, because it won't be released. It is a concept product.

Yes, this concept product is based on the Razer Blade Pro body, which has the mousepad on the right because it's designed for gaming as well as professional work (although they expect you to be using a mouse). The major flaw is that it's not comfortable or maybe even usable for left handed people.

This implementation is ugly, but I love the concept.

They need to get rid of the black edges between the screens... then you could have an ultrawide display.

The concept is fairly innovative. I've never seen anything that can expand in to three monitors. I'm curious to see the overall build quality in person.

That's exactly why I said it's marketed to a certain target group that I wasn't privy to. It would be quite a fantastic device for someone who sets up a workspace all over. For those who live fairly stationary lives like I do though, I can't see a practical purpose for it.

I agree with you, but you're wrong about the headphone jack.
They did not reinstate it on the MacBook Pro, the MacBook Pro was finalised before the iPhone 7 and they wouldnt have removed it anyway.

It was removed in the iPhone 7 because that's their most popular product, so will get manufacturers to up their game when it comes to wireless audio. They never claimed to or have the need to remove it on their other devices.

Anyway, I agree that Apple are falling behind. Microsoft has found the perfect form factor for the notebooks with the Surface Book, and I'm sure it will be the form factor of the future for a lot of notebooks. Razer are cramming amazing performance into their notebooks, staying ahead of the competition, and offering a 1st party eGPU option. And something else has occurred recently - Apple has gone from battery life leader to average.
I think their 2017 desktops will be met with little complaints but notebooks are not as forward thinking as they may believe.

I'm sure there's a market for this.
Not lightweight, but still portable as in slide-in, close the lid, and take with you. No wires or other mess to carry around.

And not only for gaming.

Video editors would be happy with this. Too bad it doesn't run macOS and FCP X.

I guarantee you if Apple ever showed off something like this everyone here would call it a gimmick and say it was ugly.

There are many problems with BT headphones imo. First is lifetime. Portable BT devices run on rechargeable batteries, and they can have a very limited lifetime. The worse part is that the batteries are mostly not user-replaceable, and you are forced to get a new one.
Second is waste. Each BT devices must need an onboard DAC to convert signals, but auxiliary devices don't, as long as the source device has one. Chip makers are gonna be happy because more chips are required/wasted for every new generation of BT devices coming out.

BT is simply not "the future", but only a part of it. Auxiliary ports are not going to be replaced perfectly anytime soon.

I have a pair of JayBird Bluebuds X that I have used for over 3 years - over 2200 miles of running and biking. The battery still lasts very long and charges very fast. I can't say a bad thing about em.
