True. I've had one crap out already. It was in a semi-enclosed metal clip-on lamp, which may have been the problem. The main ones I use are very well ventilated, though. Given the electronics inside, I'll be pleasantly surprised if all the LED bulbs I bought over the last year or so end up with the long lifespans they're supposedly good for.
I’ve had hue bulbs in enclosed, sealed outdoor fixtures, exposed to the elements, for almost two years now and they’re just fine.
 
I’ve just switched from Lifx to Hue and so far I am impressed. As I add more bulbs I’d rather they all connect to my home data using one connection than the Lifx bulbs all requiring their own WiFi IP address. The Lifx bulbs had much more vivid colours and were also capable of switching on to the last used setting after a cut in power.

The Philips app isn’t as bad as I’d feared but improvement will always be welcomed when 3.0 is released.
