Not sold on smart TV’s. Rather TV manufactures put maximum smarts into the video, interfaces and leave the rest to sticks or boxes. So far not one of the TV OS has been impressive. Lag behind the sticks and boxes getting new and or updated features. More complexity for essentially no gain.
Yep I don't like smart tvs anymore but the cost difference between smart and nonsmart features have been negligible at best. You don't have to use the smart features. Use Apple TV 4K and forget the TV's built in software.
You can't get a decent TV without the smart features nowadays. I presume without the same feature, it'd cost about the same anyway. So average mom and pops can make use of the smart OS. I stick with my Apple TV box.
You must have bad luck on these LG OLED panels or you’re not using them properly.Im on my 2nd panel since 2017
hope you got a long warranty, my oled has already been replaced due to burn in and now the replacement is starting to have issues after a year
That’s why you need a regular LCD for that. I use my C8 OLED exclusively for watching movies.I don't know what the rest of the world is like, but in Canada, every single cable/broadcast channel has the network logo up non-stop except during commercials or when they turn animated and start jumping around the screen.
I guess Canadians can't have OLEDs until they cut the cord.
Not necessarily. You can feed audio from the TV to your Dolby Atmos (and the like) capable receiver using ARC.not sure why this is such a big deal. Aren’t most people buying $3,000 TVs also setting up surround sound with an AV receiver, in which case you’d want a top-set streaming device connected to the receiver for sound?
None of the major streaming services have a logo bug -- Amazon Prime video, Apple TV+, CBS All Access, Disney+, HBO Now, Hulu, and Netflix. So whether your viewing habits are movies or TV series, you can be assured of zero permanent burn in risk (screen saver will further prevent the risk if you leave the program paused or on the app's menu screen). You must have bad luck on these LG OLED panels or you’re not using them properly.
For me, an OLED panel is exclusive to watching movies. I do not subject mine to regular TV programming that exhibit static images that cause burn ins. I have a separate regular LCD for that.
I do for one of the TVs, but 2 other TVs aren't hooked up to anything. I find their smart OS and assortment of apps to be good enough that I don't feel the need to hook up set top box like Apple TV.not sure why this is such a big deal. Most iTunes 4k content uses Dolby Vision. The more interesting possibility here is the ATV4k has problems with raised blacks on Dolby Vision content, which Apple lazily hasn't fixed yet, while this builtin app probably wouldn't have those problems. That's the only reason I can think of why LG wouldn't support Dolby Vision: Apple won't let them, because if they did it would be obvious that Apple's hardware was producing inferior picture quality.Judging by Apple TV app on other platforms (Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Samsung), it may only support HDR10 and stereo sound.

Me too no burn in on my LG OLED I love it have had it for 2 years going strongCertain usage definitely risks burn in, most notably:
Beyond these and similar scenarios, it's extremely unlikely for modern OLED to be damaged with permanent burn in images.
- Using TV as computer monitor or kiosk
- Playing many hours of games a day with static elements (e.g., HUD)
- Watching the same TV channel many hours a day with network logo or scrolling banner (e.g., CNBC)
I wonder if this means the end is near for Apple TV hardware wise.
They are sitting way to close to that sized screen!![]()
The TV App is now just a giant advertising App, so its a big deal to Apple and TV makers.not sure why this is such a big deal.
Haha .. this is NOT Airplay 2. No TV has support for Apple TV app as of now, 2020 will soon but the point is; 2018 LG TVs will get Apple TV APP, not Airplay (which is the one they left behind for those of us on LG C8 for example).

Just give us Airplay 2 on LG TV's older than 2019. I'm on C8.

I will not go back to regular LCDs for movie watching. The perfect blacks and the total lack of “blooming” and “black light bleed” on an OLED is hard to pass up, even though I have to baby it a little.
My LG C8 is still perfect after more than a year and it’s the best panel I’ve ever had with no grey banding. And to think I ordered it from Amazon!
I am extremely happy that I’ll be able to just use an internal AppleTV app to make things simple and I cannot be more excited about this announcement.

I bet if you throw up some solid grey screens or red youll see some evidence of deterioration. Granted if you dont see it in real world who cares but give it time.Me too no burn in on my LG OLED I love it have had it for 2 years going strong

All I know is the lg app for youtube tv is garbage, crashes all the time. I use it on my apple tv without issue. Also I strongly recommend using a wired connection on your lg if you do use the internal apps, the modems (at least on the 2017s) are sloooow
