I think my ATV4K is great. The only fly in the oitment is the overly sensitive remote. Why couldn't/can't Apple come up with a remote control that isn't so darned sensitive. The amount of time I waste getting to what I want due to this remote drives me to distraction.

I have recently had issues with my LG TV and Netflix. The programme will suddenly freeze then start the load process again, fails to complete then I get a message that something has gone wrong and to try later. I switch over to ATV where I can pick up where I left off before the interuption and it plays without issue.

Glad all of the TV and device manufacturers are adding atv+

just more revenue to Apple in the long run.

In many situations, AVR might be not as up to date as your TV. Many still hold onto old receiver that has HDMI but not Atmos/Vision passthrough.

You paid a good dough for the new shiny TV, paying more for replacing AVR at the same time might be tough on the wallet. Not to mention all the works of unplugging old speaker cables, and add some new ones (for the height channels). That takes lots of works.

In which case it’s best to use eARC output from TV plugged into AVR. Only a single extra HDMI cable, easy as pie. That way you ensure getting best sound and pictures out of your (old and new) equipment.

I have an ATV4K, and my 55” C9 will arrive this week. And a new AVR - probably a Yamaha with lots of bells and whistles. Is it better to plug the ATV into the TV and send the audio to the AVR by eARC - or - ATV into the AVR and then the TV?

TIA

It doesn't matter if you're on the way to buy the whole set of TV and AVR because both will be compatible with current audio/video format. But I'd go with ATV (and any of your HDMI devices) --> Yamaha AVR --> LG OLED so you run one cable out to your TV, and also power cable. Way cleaner looking.

If you haven't purchased already you might want to wait. Manufacturers are holding off on updating some of their receivers, most likely waiting for HDMI 2.1 chipsets. Yamahas' flagship model hasn't been updated since its release in May 2018. Looks as if they will be summer 2020 releases.

"HDMI 2.1 for receivers and processors are not going to be available until June 2020 at the earliest. A Forum member who's a vender on AVS spoke with one of the chip set manufacturers at CES and that is what he was told."

I decided to go with a low/mid-line Yamaha that will keep me happy for now anyway.
Thanks.
