Because the majority of devices use USB Type A. USB printers, external drives, webcams, wireless kb/mouse sets, pretty much you name it, it comes with a USB A connection. Sure, if you look hard enough, you can find drives with USB-C, but most devices are still USB-A.I don't understand these docks where the majority of USB ports are Type A.
Something you can actually work on for an extended period of time without constant frustration.
There is a USB-C port on the left side.Seems expensive. On other side, they should add at least one type-c ports instead three usb-a ports.
I think iPad is good for what it's good for, if you know what I mean. I use my MacBook for certain tasks and the iPad for others. iPad is great for anything illustrative, and I also use LumaFusion for video editing purely because the iPad Pro has more graphical grunt than my Intel MacBook.I just can't use my iPad Pro 12.9 for work. I've tried. It's very frustrating to have worked on something and try to multi-task to another app to copy/paste info or something, and then go back to the 1st app and find out it's completely lost your place or has started all over again.
I'm not blaming Apple...I'm sure it's the app, but regardless I have a real problem switching apps and having the apps stay right where I left them when I switched focus and then come back. Not really work-related, but IG is perfect proof. I get way down my list of posts, switch to another app for a moment to do something and switch back and I'm back at the top again. Frustrating.

I'm guessing it will be at least $349-$399 based on similar products that Kensington has for the Microsoft Surface and Surface Go. Maybe more because it has wireless charging and, well, they're catering to Apple customersInteresting idea. Curious to know the price.
I’d rather have an iPad running macOS (optimized for touch)! Can we just all admit that the market is desperately asking for touch screen MacBooks? Let’s be completely honest with ourselves and stop defending Apple.
100%. Despite sticking with Apple since the first iphone and ipad, iOS has always felt like it is forcing me to adapt to how it does things rather than the other way around. I do it because the hardware is great (generally) and the touch interface is almost flawless - but the software is frustrating and always feels like it should have come further along by now. It's always "next update" mentality - but I will speak for myself.I just can't use my iPad Pro 12.9 for work. I've tried. An interesting step on the option of using iPads as laptop replacements...
I disagree. I'm using an M1 MacBook Air and wish that it had touchscreen for when I use iOS apps on it. If this was possible, I would be selling my iPad Pro in a heartbeat, and enjoy the convenience of only having to carry one device instead of 2.No one is asking for this. That would be awful. Please don't give Apple ideas. Touchscreens do not belong on Macs.
The ONLY things wired in to my computers these days is USB C. Monitors and fast drives. Printers, mice, keyboard pretty much you name it are wireless. Heck i even access my 24 tb NAS wirelessly. One legacy USB A would be plenty for me. Just saying.Because the majority of devices use USB Type A. Yeah, the 90% of the time when you're only doing one thing. I'm the same here. Wouldn't get rid of it for the world, but I do wish they'd massively improve it.Ipad multi-app stuff is awkward. Try sharing an app screen on zoom - what a pain. And I use my IPP every day, with a keyboard. It's great 90% of the time.
I disagree with this. I honestly would not be using the touchscreen on my MacBook Pro because it’s not using iOS. iPad allows it to be perfect as a touchscreen because of its gestures and functionality as a tablet. The screen on a MacBook was not designed to be tapped and were it configured to be used as a touchscreen it would be a horrible experience, just like my experience with the MS Surface which I used to own.Can we just all admit that the market is desperately asking for touch screen MacBooks? Let’s be completely honest with ourselves and stop defending Apple.
That’s a pretty short-sighted perspective. You don’t think Apple can add iPad-like gestures to a touchscreen MacBook? And as far as macOS versus iOS, do you not see that they’re headed toward convergence? Do you not see the popularity of people essentially converting an iPad into a laptop? Maybe it’s just so obvious, you’re not looking.I disagree with this. For the legacy addicts. The same reason vga and serial ports stuck around for so long. People will spend $150-250 on a metal stand but whine that their frayed USB-A cable can’t be used. Go buy a USB-c replacement for 5-10 bucks and toss the mindset.I don't understand these docks where the majority of USB ports are Type A.
I think people that actually have USB C stuff other than iPhone charging cables will be a growing minority. Most people will never plug anything into their iPad other than a charger. Most people won't plug anything into a MacBook that doesn't have an adapter or hub. I'm sure there will be those with hard drives, monitors, flash drives or GPUs but more people without. For the legacy addicts. The same reason vga and serial ports stuck around for so long.
