Are the first cars with "next generation" features required to be so darn ugly? Eventually the features come to (maybe even launch with) more normal looking cars, so I guess this is a way to get people to look and pay attention?

Right… but I think the general point is that Android Automotive is not the same as CarPlay… or even Android Auto for that matter. Google even has a website that tells you what the different nomenclature means, because it is confusing. CarPlay is your phone projecting to screens, the new version with multi-screen projection. Android Auto is the same - your phone drives the experience. You could say these 2 are competitors. Android Automotive is a pre-packaged ordeal for the full stack of services your cars OS has for its In Vehicle Infotainment. It’s competitors are the likes of Ford Sync, Toyota’s “Arene” system coming in a few years, etc.
Yes, I know this !
android auto is akin to current carplay
android automotive is akin to next-gen carplay.

there's also 2 android automotive's, to make things even more confusing.

there's the open source version, that bmw are using and putting their own UI on, and there's also the branded release that ford/volvo use

The video took forever to get to the point. The Dee car looks like crapolla.

Apple should make their car bare bones EV with $40k price that's good to drive and the driver plugs-in Apple devices for displays.

Neat first draft. I'm excited to see when they finish the exterior.

MR has fallen for the classic reporter scam which is for a reporter to write an article that is so far fetched and out of this world that other news outlets will jump at the chance to quote the article in their own news sections and MR has fallen for it hook line and sinker. Why? because the author of the bloomberg article talks about Apple and their 'it's only in Apple's mind' car. A car supposedly so well defined and built that BMW have made a car to rivals Apple's car. I mean come on, what an utterly riddiculous comment to make, BMW makes a prototype car to rival Apple's car, a car that does not exist, not even in drawing form or even in concept drawing form. Apple have not got a clue about what engine to use, wheels to use, wha chassis design to use, nothing, nada, not a zip but yet we are meant to believe BMW are so scared of this no-existant Apple car that they have gone ahead and made a prototype to rival Apple's non-existant car. I'm sorry but the bloomberg author of the article is a blockhead, an utter fool for writing what he wrote.

Some of my favourite videos are of people test driving older cars and comparing them to their modern day counterpoints. To the one the older cars are more enjoyable and more entertaining to drive on the street than the modern versions. Granted the modern vehicles have higher capabilities if you drive them on the track, but on the street they’re soulless.

Older VW GTIs, BMW 318s and Honda CRX and Civic Si‘s are a blast to drive. Today’s…meh.

A lot of older designs also had far better visibility for the driver than today’s cars.

The woman AI voice trying to convince us that the past was all 💩💩💩 and what we really need is a spyware cyberpunk city.

The only thing that needed to change in the 80s scenes were the smoky car.

If the AI voice had a vision of the future there would be public transport everywhere.

This thing was so corny it actually made me smile 😊 and remember the 80s and 90s. What a time. That being said, i wouldn’t buy one of these.

This is just a concept car. This will not come to market as shown. At best some ideas will be folded into future vehicle offerings from BMW.

If that’s what BMW considers superior to an (alleged) Apple Car, then I can’t imagine how bad the Apple Car looks.

Of course, these are just concepts.
In reality it will look like the cloth in The emperor's new clothes fairy tale.

Being able to recognize the driver is super useful for driver profiles. I get into my Model 3 and it seems to always want to apply my wife’s profile thereby creating a trash compactor with the seat and squishing me.

Tesla has a lot of upcoming competition. I feel that they should be upping their game to stay ahead. There’s so much that can be done with their infotainment system (ahem, CarPlay) but they seem slow to innovate.
