There's absolutely no justification to do this with computers as well.
They are not thinking rationally now. They are greedy and they think the costumers will accept anything they'll throw on them.

Uhm.... There are reasons for the price hike actual changes in technology, R&D costs recouped and internal specs bumped. Don't forget to look at windows laptops - the entire market for high-end laptops has increased their prices, BEFORE Apple did. Also, businesses don't act with human emotion. They aren't "greedy" or "irrational" with anything. They recoup losses and make profits, while providing products people will buy. If you won't buy it, they will be just fine.

By not discounting the previous generation MacBook Pro. The practically raised mac prices across the board.

I don't think Apple is intentionally moving upmarket but I think there may be a business case for a higher-end iPhone. Plenty of people would buy a $1,000+ phone IMO.

Since Apple now officially went from evil to full-blown-villain (and it's coming from a hardcore fan for years), do you think it's possible they'll do that vile thing they did with the MacBooks in the next iPhone models?
I mean they'll keep the iPhone 7 the same price and add the iPhone 8 lineup on top of it in a price increased in about 200 dollars?
So let them increase the price as long as the hardware is spectacular ...nothing less

The only reason Apple gets away with that so easily is that 90% of people use either carrier financing or Apple financing to pay off the iPhone.

Laptops have always been a lot more though generally. The 256GB 7 plus cost me £912. I can't imagine it being more than £950 be a worry if it was.

I have always bought the top model + apple care

This year top spec , apple care and case = £1100..... That's kinda ridiculous given a few years back the entry for me was £700+

Our currency is garbage right now, and beneath whatever image Apple likes to portray for itself, underneath it's a business which would never consider cutting into their margins for the benefit of the customer.

Given they have been dodging tax they can afford to absorb it ;)

Or get apple to pay all their taxed and we can a rebate from that pot.

Under cook they stopped all innovation and just milked the product , cook is the same cancer to apple as ballmer was to Microsoft, and both pulled in record sales!

This week Microsoft shammed apple, one company is innovating the other is milking its users.

I've always got the top spec phone and laptop, now that is £5200.....**** that !!! That's a joke for computer gear that is hardly better than the previous versions

I believe apple will release the iPhone 8 early, in June - to coincide with the 10th anniversary - it will be a major upgrade and apple will try to separate it from the iPhone 7. That is why the iPhone 7 is such a small upgrade because they are keeping all improvements for the 10th aniversary. It will be A huge price increase which will help them retain the iPhone 7 without discounting.

More importantly, I believe that the timing will be set to purposefully increase profits. Think about it, anybody on the iPhone upgrade program in June next year will NOT be entitled to it since they won't have passed the 10th month owning their 7.

This is what I'd imagine. Especially with the rumor of 3 different sized phones. One being 4.7 inches, 5 inches, and 5.5 inches.

4.7 inch phone: $649, $749, $849

5 inch iphone: $749, $849, $949

5.5 inch iphone: $869, $969,$1069

They already did all that here in the UK with the iPhone 7? They kept the 6S, added the 7 with removed ports, sacked price increases on everything..

All in the name of Brexit of course.

Nope.

Too many carriers and Apple itself are tied in to the 12 month upgrade programs.

possibly!

by the way - just noticed in UK - the macbook 12 inch increased overnight from £1049 to £1249. That is just disgusting!

For our friends on the continent, did you notice the same price increase in euros overnight in the Apple laptop line-up? I am trying to understand if the price increase here in the UK is due to the rubbish £ or if there is also a price hike, and if they therefore increased prices in euros as well.

The only price hike was in the form of the old models having a couple hundred added but the new model prices are pretty much US dollar -> U.K. Sterling + 20%VAT. If you can shave the vat off then it's pretty much the us price.

Without VAT the price woulda been around £1650 for the high end base model of the 13" with OLED

They did this in 2012. rMBP's when first introduced did cost more than 2011 MBP's. Apple doing what they have been doing forever.
