I know as soon as you bring up battery you will get battery experts saying the complete opposite of each other but curious how many people put their phone on the charger every night regardless if they have 1% left or 80%

Launch day iPhone 13 Pro charged overnight every night using the old 5w brick, 100% battery health. Always done the same with all my iPhones and never had a single issue with premature battery life. Last years iPhone 12 mini that my wife now has is still on 100% and she listens to music on it all day and again, charges overnight with the 5w charger.

Long ago I used to keep my iPhone 5 plugged in continuously- and the battery swelled and pushed off the screen.
Nowadays I use a Shortcut automation to never charge it beyond 80%

I put my phone on charger every night. I have it set to on at 5 am and i have an automation set to turn off the smart plug when phone reaches 80% daiy. My phone is never charged to 100

My husband does this. No matter what. If I’m over 50% I don’t bother. That said he rocked his 5S from launch until about 2 years ago when he finally upgraded. No battery problems.

Yes, every night. And then I open a bedside clock app that stays on all night (which means the screen is on all night) It's a digital LED clock app with a black background. Been using that same app since around 2013 for all my primary iPhones.

My iPhone is also my alarm clock, but I use the stock app not the bedside clock app for that.

Every night. I use a sleep cycle app. I have an iphone 7+ and am on the second battery now. I also have a 6s that I use for backup (I use the free service textnow for that) and that battery is beyond dead. It will die in 30 minutes if not plugged in. the upside tho is it also charges in 30 minutes lol.

I cycle 65-15, once/day, 5W charger, running an automated custom optimization (shortcut+smartplugs), set to charge in the morning (while sleeping, or during B’fast/surf/bathroom routine). 2.8yo XR is arguably still worthy of Apple’s 16hr SOT spec.

If you run your phone to 1%, you'll degrade the battery faster than usual. At any rate, I always plug in around ~10pm and let Battery Optimization do its thing. Right now, my launch day 12 Pro sits at a nice 89%

Credible, corroborating research I’ve seen seems to indicate otherwise - the lower voltage you can run, the better. IMHO, the ‘keep it above xx%’ thing comes from long-term storage advice, where the batt may eventually self-discharge below critical minimums.

Actually in those instances what suffers more is mAh not voltage. Remember, to pull power you need As and Vs, Vs are always stable due to the entire silicone runs based of that.

You lost me… those graphs show batt capacity loss (Ah/mAh) as a function of state of charge (SoC) either cycling (eg 0-50 vs 50-100%), or at rest vs temp. My use of ‘voltage’ just meant SoC (eg 4.2v=100%).

That’s what I do too. I got my iPhone 13 on March 11, so it’s almost 3 months and I charge it next to my bed every night. It’s usually at around 75% after all-day use. My battery health is still 100%.

My last iPhone, an 8 Plus, and the SE that came before it were also charged bedside all night. After 4 years, the 8 Plus was at about 80% health.

Except the original point about if low low SoC (say 10-0%) is bad (you) or good (me) for the batt.
Well, from an engineering standpoint, it's never good to have something in the critical zone. Remember, the percentages are guesstimations of the actual charge level. If your battery is degraded, your phone could shut off at like 9% or drop from 15% to 6% in mere minutes.

My 13 pro max typically ends the day at around 60-70% battery life. I just plonk it on my magsafe charger and let it charge overnight, rationale being that it likely won’t be enough to last through a second day and I don’t want to deal with the uncertainty. Easier to just start the day at 100% and know that my phone has ample juice to tank whatever the day may throw at it.

i always charge my 12 PM(Purchased on February 2021) when the battery is around 40-60%... if its 61% and im about to go to bed,i just leave it alone. current BH is 94%.

Qi charged this XS every night regardless of what % it was at, ever since I bought it new 3 years ago. I feel like this was best battery life I've gotten out of an Apple battery.

Charging my 12PM during the day and never at night anymore. Battery lasts a long time and health is at 94%.

I religiously keep my launch 12 Pro between 40-80% and only ever charge it with 5W USB. Still showing 100% health in iOS.

ETA: Apple Watch owners should check out the app Juice Watch. It lets you set notifications for upper and lower charge limits of both the watch and the phone. Also has complications for quick on-wrist glances of both battery levels.

This is the way. I just don't have enough mental capacity to micro-manage all of my devices' batteries for optimal long-term use. I use them as needed during the day and plug them in a night so that I have a full charge the next day. So long as they get me through the day I don't care.

I also work primarily from home so access to power isn't an issue. If you are someone who works remotely at lot to where the extra 30 minutes of usage from a carefully managed battery matters I'd suggest just also carrying an external batter pack too. I have an Anker PowerCore that can charge my phone like five times.
