I've used charge limit on my MBA, because it stays plugged in almost 100% of the time—I find that being limited to 80% wasn't such an issue, bc it was easy to top it off if needed before going out, and very often I just didn't need to.

I never used it on my 15PM, because I love having a lot of battery, and I often upgrade, so I did what I usually do—just use it and charge it without thinking of it. Also on my phone I really would notice 20% less battery, so since that was the only option I didn't use it.

After a year my 15PM is at 93%, which is not great, but in my experience kind of typical.

But now it's all different—the new charge limit on iOS 18 gives us 80%, 85%, 90%, and 95%!

I like this a lot, but I'm wondering what other folks are thinking.

For me, since I lost 7% in one year, I'd be tempted to try out 95% or even 90% to get almost all my capacity, but cut down on the heat and excess charging.

Curious about other people. Will you be trying charge limiting? What level will you be trying? If you did it last year when it worked at 80%, how did it work for you?

It worked fine for me, but that’s also because I don’t really use my phone a ton. I feel like it’s kept the battery percentage stable. Not that I’m super worried about that.

Had been using 80% limit always in my 15PM. Battery health is at 97%. I do keep it connected while driving or at work. Don't bother about charging it at home so often.

The higher you set the limit, the more stress it puts on the battery.
75% state of charge is actually less stressful on the battery than 80%.
The “sweet spot” for maximum charge vs battery lifespan is 75%, but it doesn’t give the battery much run time.

I tried optimized charging this year on my 15 Pro Max to see battery health, I am usually 90-92% after the year, but never worried as I do iPhone Upgrade Program. This year at 87%, the worst I have seen, so will just charge like normal on new phone tomorrow.

Will probably stick with 80. But I will change depending on my day. If I have a heavy use or extended use then will certainly be bumping it up. I carry a power bank and a fast charging cord with me so power is never far away.

I’m going to try out 90% on my pro max. If I feel like I have to charge it during the day a couple days a week I’ll bump it up to 95%, any lower is kind of silly, it’s like suffering from an old battery before it’s old.

I'm thinking I will start at 80%. If I can get through most days with that, I'll stick with it. If I anticipate heavier usage coming up, I'll go higher ahead of those days. As time goes on and the battery capacity declines, I expect I'll increase the percentage to keep it going for full days.

No limits here.

I’d like to see people do a test and compare the battery life of a phone with 100% battery health and 80% charging limit with a phone with 80% battery health and no limit, just using it from 100%.

Hundreds, if not thousands, of user reports here:

I will definitely enable the 80% limit. If I ever need 100%, I'll unlock it for that day.

Yes, lots and lots of user reports, but the majority of them don't mention what their charge limit is set to. Just what their current battery health is which is frustrating...

I only use about 20-30% of my battery each day so it make sense to set it to 80%. After a year my battery capacity is still at 100%. I only have 91 cycles on my introduction day 15PM.

100%, what the point of using a battery like if it was already 4 years old
