You mean like bringing tablets/handhelds into the mainstream which make it easier for doctors and other such professionals to help out others and perform their jobs?

Professionals such as doctors, pilots, field technicians and the military, have been using tablets since the turn of the century.

The main difference now is that their popularity is up, and their price has lowered to the point that more cheapskate managers will now buy tablets for them :)

Makes no sense, obviously false

The article makes no sense. It says the defendant received 220,000 yuan, $35,000. then it says he received 22,000 yuan which should be $3,500. if he paid the around $500 for the iPad he has $3000 left. So he really sold his kidney to get some money, and then bought an iPad.

Anyway, smells like an urban myth. Shame on you MacRumors.

One of the defendants received 220,000 yuan. That defendant then gave the donor 22,000 yuan, and the rest of the original 220,000 was split between doctor, the hospital staff and the remaining defendants.

A sad story, because with the proper due diligence prior to the operation, the surgeon could likely have avoided having the donor suffer from renal insufficiency (he likely was not a good candidate for donation).

Of course, in this case, due diligence was out the window from the start.

This seems presumptuous. If you are selling organs in a country where that is illegal, but donating is not, are you going to tell the surgeon you are engaging in an illegal activity? Probably not. You would likely tell the surgeon the patient is donating a kidney to someone in need. No need to vilify everyone.
You're missing the point, how many teenagers do stuff like that? So you're saying a teenager walks to a surgeon, and says, I want to donate a kidney and the surgeon gets his knife out, and they all deserve a nobel prize! How likely is it that the surgeon, in this instance, did this without getting his parents permission? How likely will a parent authorize on paper to let you donate your kidneys for apple products? You're not making sense, I was only talking about surgeons who do these kinds of specific things knowlngly. You need some more coffee :D

What the hell does this story have to do with Apple or its products? The point is that the idiot sold his organ for money; what he intended to buy with it is pretty irrelevant.

yo, watch ur ***** mouth, don't attack other race, i am not chinese, but just don't attack others

Dunno if this been a "urban myth", several big news around the globe raported the same thing, like CNET US.

Our swedish biggest magazine, Aftonbladet, reported same thing. But also that a student named "Wang" did same thing to get an iPad 2, also from Aftonbladet.

There are no money, items, gadgets, cars in the WORLD that can replace a human's health! It's miserable that this kind of black market exist, but that's the brutal reality in every country :( If something is so popular some will always do everything to get it by all means - no matter if it's this or prostitution - only so they also enjoy of that thing who's so popular.

I will always feel very sad when I read stuff like this one... :(

Not just being poor, but being poor in a place where you truly have no other option. We've all met people in the US that have overcome incredible obstacles to succeed... but there are parts of the world where this level of opportunity simply does not exist.

This teenager got $3,500 for his kidney. He could have gone to Foxconn, got a job, and in one or two years of hard work he would have saved more than $3,500. Which is what a few hundred thousand people in China do.

It means that the iPhone is so magic that everybody wants to have one. So the idiot wanted to sold his organ for money and buy an iPhone. Unbelieveable!

if the surgeons know the risk of getting prosecuted, then why are they performing illegal surgery on the boy and those other 5 people in the first place?

LOL. So naive. Do you realize how corrupt the Chinese institutions are? I doubt anything will happen to the surgeon and the boy will likely die.

Very sad story.

Well I don't know what china is like, so really I don't know how corrupt their institutions are and how likely the boy will die? And, yes, it is a very sad story. Thanks for sharing.

Wrong. This is about Apple as a fetish around the world.

I still don't get why this "news" is worthy of being mentioned in macrumors... If the guy would used the money to buy a dog, a car, a bicycle, a wristwatch or simply invest it in the stock market would you still mention it in here?
Guess what, I bet a large percentage of drug dealers also happen to buy apple products. Should we make a threat for every single ipod bought with cocaine/marijuana/heroine money?
Yes it is sad that people sell part of themselves for money, specially if they use that money for "useless" (and by useless I really meant not top priority such as food, shelter, security....)
This is no different that any other ethical mega-problem concerning transplants, money compensation (for transplants or even for boldily fluids such as blood or semen or BM)
In conclusion: Sad, but no idea why mentioned in first page of MR forums...

This thread is all about MacRumors as it says about what having an Apple gadgets means this days. MR is not a mere "tech news" forum. I've had several sociological discussions here. Get out and go posting on threads about Apple's next releases.

It would be a shame if 100 years from now 12 lanes of cars was part of the answer to any question. Anyway thinking you are building cities that will scale is easy enough. The hard part is actually doing it and few enough of us posting here will be around to know the result in 2110.

Really! Yes it's dead easy to build scalable infrastructure. I guess someone would have invented teleportation too. Now these problems are solved maybe I can join you and bury my head in the sand also.
