Hi, people.

Technical question about batteries. I rarely carry the charger when I need to work for a few hours with my M5 Macbook. When I get home, I usually keep the Macbook lid-closed by my side on the desk, charging from a USB-C cable attached to my Mac Studio while I work. It charges slowly, which is totally expected, but does it harm the battery in anyway? I don't mind the slow charge, since I usually stay for long hours using the Mac Studio + Studio Display, while the Macbook relies by my side just chilling :) Is that okay? I like to avoid the clutter.

Thanks.

Slow charging a battery is actually better for its longevity - it's part of why I generally have my MacBooks hooked up to fairly low-wattage chargers. I'm rarely in a hurry for them to charge, and when I am, I have one high-wattage charger here that I can plug it into for a bit.

Yeah, it's fine. I have a USB-A charger built into the end-table next to my couch, and use a USB-A to USB-C adapter to charge my iPad there (Air M2). Slow but does the job, keeps it from running down in any event. I've even plugged in my MacBook "just to see what happened" and it recognizes the charger too; I doubt it'd even keep up with my 16" M1 Max if it's awake but certainly won't cause any harm.
