Well this isn’t good... looks like we’re all going to have to be careful when removing the charging cable

Ouch!

I’ve not touched that port yet as charged over night and totally forgot it was there. Was away from my desk all day using the device yesterday.

I’ll be very conscious of this going forward now.

So apple support disappointed me a bit. They asked me to send it back and then it will be repaired/replaced and they can’t say how long it will take. I then asked if I could get a direct exchange if a added applecare+. That would have been possible if I didn’t open a repair case, now it’s too late.

At the end I ordered a new one which will arrive early to mid may and I will send the broken one back on the last day of my return window. Useless support ...

I’m yet to use it but that’s not good...did you not realise it was there and pulled your iPad?

Had similar experience. My charge port was wonky though and there was damage to the material of the case on arrival. Apple said they could replace it but would take 3-4 weeks so i am returning it and cancelling ipad pro order too. Working from home, i cannot wait 3-4 weeks. Will look elsewhere now.

Nope, I took it out normally like the day before and without adding any pressure the charging port came out with it.

Yikes. I have noticed that the connection to this port is quite a bit more secure than most usb-c ports I have on various devices. I have been taking extra care with it, but had not honestly considered this might happen. Bummer about the poor support.

I also picked it up from my desk and started to walk away yesterday forgetting the case was plugged in!

well let's hope not, i'm not going to be "careful" about unplugging a USB-C plug... i expect the port to stay intact and i strongly suspect it will remain so... this likely is a one off problem, hopefully. that said i feel bad for the original poster, hopefully they are able to get a quick exchange.

That is unacceptable for a $300+ accessory for an already expensive tablet. I was on the fence about getting one, but seeing this and the other thread with the bubble issues on the palm rest, I'm going to wait a few months before I consider buying one. and if I do purchase, it will be in store.

Seems like using one of the third party magnets would be a good solution to this. Obviously this isn’t an excuse because a product of this pricing should better quality.

Wow. Sorry for your troubles. Hate when you get something new, and it fails right away. But unfortunately does happen. I did get Apple Care with mine, as I have learned in the past its easier.
Good Idea D3ggy. Might look into that when I get mine

There is NO SUCH THING as perfection in manufacturing. Apple is the most scrutinized consumer products company on earth. Stuff happens.

You should have higher standards for "premium" products. If I'm spending a lot of money on something and it arrives damaged, I'm going to be upset and not have the flippant "stuff happens" attitude.

I‘ve noticed with mine that when charging from keyboard it stops charging after a while and before it‘s fully charged Also, the keyboard is wonky (only) when i have the usb c plugged in in the keyboard (not iPad). I will get it replaced, but not just yet. sucks though.

That’s a pretty sucky way to go through life. It’s not a personal affront to you. Stuff happens. It’s impossible that it won’t. On a site dedicated to Apple scrutiny, you are going to see the most. I’m impressed that thus far we’ve seen ONE technical failure and ONE cosmetic imperfection. That’s pretty good!

What matters is how the company handles problems, and what their reputation for quality, and their handling is, over the long run. Apple scores very high marks on those measures.

The specific cable is no longer available on Amazon but there are similar ones available.

I also use this on my MacBook Air.

I have long thought that Apple made a huge mistake discontinuing the MagSafe charge port.

I agree with that. I like the MagSafe charge port.I found one similar on Amazon, so will have when my iPad arrives. I got an extra one for my daughter as well. Thanks for the idea

Looks like you should have forked over an extra $200 for the Apple Magic Keyboard PRO version. ?

But seriously, that sucks—I’m sure Apple will make it right for you, but every little annoyance feels amplified these days so I’m sorry you won the ‘bad luck lottery’.

WOW! That looks fragile! My question is where you simply unplugging it, or did the charging cable get yanked? No blame, it should be sturdier.

I guess I’ll be using the iPad’s charging port for charging overnight. Of course the new charging port would be a boon for desktop use. I hope Apple makes this right for you soon.
