my series 7 isn’t charging properly. It looks fine when I put it on the charger but then stops charging with no warning. After a reboot I got it to charge but then the battery seemed to drain more quickly than normal. Has anyone else had similar problems? It only started since the last watchOS update.

not sure if related or not but I also slept in this morning because my watch didn’t tap my wrist when my alarm went off like it normally does. a weird but incredibly annoying bug!

I had the same exact issue with my s7 this morning. I did a hard reset (hold down both side button and crown until you see the apple logo) and it solved the problem.

Interesting thanks. I went through and online chat with apple and they advised a force restart so have done that and will monitor it now. I tried two different charges with the same problem so it’s definitely a Watch issue rather than a charger problem

You're not alone...

My S7 on 8.1 seems to take forever to charge (took 2.5 hours from 30% to full today) though haven’t noticed it fully stop charging. Using the included charger with Apple 20W

So after the force restart yesterday things seemed ok but my watch drained much faster and had low battery warning this morning. Put it on charge and the screen just went black. No signs of life at all. Managed to get it going again with another force restart.

so back on to apple support and this time they got me to unpair then set up the Watch again. Then they did a diagnostic check and reckon everything is fine with the Watch so I hope it was just a software bug that has been resolved by setting it up again. We will see!

That's horrible! I can charge my S7 in less time with the old charger.

My S7 SS graphite running on 8.1 has no issues fast charging. From 34% to 95% taking only 38 minutes to charge. Is this fast? This is my first AW and still deciding whether I should keep it.

Yesterday, I used the new S7 charger with 20W and after 1.5 hours, it went from 10 to 16%.
I thought my cable defective and doubt that 8.1 would explain my issue.

After the advice from apple a couple of days ago to unpair the Watch then set it up again, mine has been working and charging absolutely fine. Still early days but hopeful it’s fixed the issue. Might be worth trying

Damn that’s terrible. Does rebooting the Watch make any difference?

Unfortunately no. I tried a second 20W adapter and went to more than one electrical plug.
Is there another way to test the charging cable to see if it is working?

Last night and this morning i had a weird situation with charging my S7. Around 9:30pm last night the watch was at 10% took off my S4 off the charger and put the S7 to charge. Woke up during the night around 12;40am to place my phone on the charger next to the watch (Belkin 3 in 1) and to my surprise the watch was down to 3% after 3 hours on the charger, the watch never charged. Took it off the charger and placed it back and then it start charging. At 5am the time i usually wake up the watch was still not at 100%. This have never happened to me before on the S4.
There's definitely a charging problem with the S7. at first i was septic with all the people complaining. But now i see there's clearly a problem

Not that I know of unfortunately. It’s unlikely something is wrong with the charging cable but it could be worth a shot to go buy a new one. Can always return it if needed (or return the original one causing problems in its place if that actually turns out to be the problem)

it this normal bahavior?

I had the same issue last night. Woke up around 6:30 AM (for my nightly walk to the bathroom LOL) and noticed when I tapped my Series 7 it didn't light up the "night stand view". Checked the Watch and saw that it was down to about 25% (sorry don't remember what it was at when I put is on the charger). Tried again in Nightstand Mode and same issue when I got up up around 8:30 AM. Put it back on the charger after doing a hard reset (BTW - using the USB-C cable that came with the Watch and the USB-C charger that came with my iPad mini 6) but laying flat and it seemed to charge normally. Have been wearing it since around 9:30 AM and the battery is down to 84% - and that included 30 minutes on a treadmill and running the Activity app. Will try again tonight in Nightstand Mode and see what happens.
(Also - and don't know if its related or not - I keep 5 playlists downloaded to the Watch for when I walk/run/etc around our neighborhood - cell service drops in areas - and the two that I do manually for 25 songs each never seemed to update overnight like they usually do. They did update AFTER I did the hard reset.)

In my case, it's definitely not the charging cable—this behavior persists on 4 pucks: 2 old ones, a Belkin 3-in-1 Boost charger, and the new quick-charge cable in Apple's 20W adapter.

Clearly not—but was that entire period on the charger?

If the period from 05:00 on was on the charger, that's really bizarre.

But if it was off the charger, you have more than just a charging issue—because the watch shouldn't be losing 50% of the battery in 6-7 hours.

That day i started charging the watch around 9pm. But it never start charging until i woke up took it off then put it back on the charger that was about around 1am. Since i do 3 hours of exercise a day and 2 of those hours are on LTE it is normal to lose 40% to 50% in 6 hours for me

I seemingly had this same issue last night. Put it on charge on my beckon 3-in1. It said it was charging but noticed at 11am today it was down to 15% or something like that.

It fast charged like a champ when I got home though.

Is there anyway of removing the update from the App ? I D/L the update and I don't want to install it until this is resolved.

If I’m understanding you correctly, going to the Watch app and to general>usage should show you currently downloaded apps. Once there, you should be able to delete anything (including downloaded but not installed OS updates).

My mom was having this issue, and that is how I came upon this thread. She is on 8.1 as well. She shut the Watch down, and then turned back on after a bit. This seems to have fixed the problem — 100% after about 50 minute charge.

Maybe try shutting down and turning on, and/or a hard reset to see if this fixes it?
