My mom was having this issue, and that is how I came upon this thread. She is on 8.1 as well. She shut the Watch down, and then turned back on after a bit. This seems to have fixed the problem — 100% after about 50 minute charge.

Maybe try shutting down and turning on, and/or a hard reset to see if this fixes it?
The restart fixed it for me but only temporarily. Same issue seems to come and go for whatever reason.

Strange how these issues are not across the board, some do and some don't, I had no issue using the old puck, started at 18% and in 1.5 hrs 100%. SS 45MM

Did you try a hard restart, a shut down/start up, or both?

And are you using the new or old puck?
Just a regular shut down/start up. Fixed it once but last time I tried my charging was still slower after the reboot. Seems to be entirely random for me

I think most people do a hard reset — instead of shutting down, waiting for a minute, and then starting up. I don’t know if there is a difference, but maybe worth checking.

Are you using the puck included with the S7, or do you have access to an old puck? Again, I don’t know if there will be a difference but maybe worth checking out as well.

Have you tried unpairing with your phone and then pairing up again? It sounds like this is a method suggested by Apple and has worked for some users. I would try the other methods first though.

I started this thread and had the problem occurring on two different pucks. A hard reset would fix it but only temporarily. Apple suggested to unpair and pair and setup again. This seems to have fixed the issue

Yeah I’m using the puck that came with the S7 and don’t have any old pucks unfortunately.

I’ll Google how to do a hard reset and probably give that a shot! Might also just skip trying that and do a complete un pair though. Thanks for the help!

I would definitely go with the unpair/pair solution suggested by the OP. Should be fairly simple. Hope it goes well.

Had this charging issue with my series 7 as well as my sons Series 7. Watches acted like they were charging but didn’t. Did hard resets and both started to charge properly again. One with old puck and charging brick, one with new.

Did the full unpair/pair and set the Watch up as new but it didn’t fix the problem. Fast charged as it should the first time but now already back to very slow charging 😭

Have you contacted Apple Support? I’m curious if they would offer a solution that hasn’t been mentioned.

We have found out. That the error only occurs when the watch is below 20% battery capacity.

And just yet, Apple released watchOS 8.1.1
Statement in the changelog. Apple watch not charged as expected…
