Yea, if your talking about the store having a ceiling, wall and floor.

Its going to have new tables (look familiar), new accessory section, Huge tv in the back, Different style genius bars, different stools, and accents in the store (posters, plants etc.).

May not seem that huge but its the biggest changes since they incorporated the wooden tables. Up until now most stores have a stainless steel design.
If only it wouldn't take forever for this new store design to come to stores in malls. The mall Apple stores in my area are terrible.

Why couldn't they just re-hire Ron Johnson after he was let go from his brief stint as CEO at JC Penny?
Maybe he didn't want to come back?

Apple could have made him an offer... but I'm not sure he would have taken it.

He probably felt like he had done all he was gonna do at Apple. Sometimes you just get burnt out.

He wanted to be the CEO of a company. Sadly... JC Penney didn't work out. Now he runs a startup company (probably for fun)

It's not like he needs the money. He turned his Apple stock options into $112 million... and he's probably still got most of the $400 million he made during his 7 years at Apple.

Do you think he wants to go back to the grueling job as an Apple senior vice-president?

Lord Jony: Charlie, a word, if you don't mind.

Charlie: Yes, your Lordship?

Lord Jony: Here's the script for the Super Secret Design Lab infomercial.

Charlie: Uh, script?

Lord Jony: Charlie, you know the billions Apple spends advertising on CBS?

Charlie: Yes, why?

Lord Jony: Good. See you in makeup old chap, what.

You could be describing Jony. He is surely burnt out after all these design ‘tweaks’?
He has Porsche 911 syndrome. Everything he puts out now looks almost identical to the last model. Some might see that design as timeless which it absolutely is not, (I actually like it - is just boring though), others may see it as ugly.

Sure... but Jony is still there.

I was talking about a guy who actually left Apple... and who probably wouldn't want to go back to corporate life ever again.

Ron Johnson created the most successful retail store on Earth. At some point you run out of things to do. So he wanted to become a CEO.

But with Jony... design never has an "end"

BTW... I should not have said "burnt out"... that has a negative connotation meaning you hate your job.

I could have left it at the sentence prior "He probably felt like he had done all he was gonna do at Apple."

And that describes Ron Johnson: created a successful store... then he tried something else.

You have a good point but Angela Ahrendts is not a very good fit for Apple IMO.

People keep saying this but battery life on Apple products in general has always been on the increase.

People on this forum crack me up. First, anytime Jony gets mentioned, you always get the parade of clowns mocking Jony and "thinness," but when the Apple Watch was revealed, those same people criticized how "chunky" it was.

Then they criticize Apples focus on aesthetics (sometimes at the cost of functionality), but those are the same people mocking Apples battery case for looking "ugly." Something that was designed for practicality and ease of use, at the cost of aesthetics. Something that's a hell of a lot easier to put your phone in and out of the case, feels less chunky in the hand, and is easier to charge. At the cost of aesthetics.

You guys don't even know what you want to complain about anymore. You just want to criticize for the sake of it. Because we all know forum trolls have made as many good, industry-defining decisions like Jony and Apple have in the past. Yep, you guys sure outsmarted that old fool Jony Ive.

Even though I know quite a few PC-guys who hate Apple as their day-to-day passion, I haven't met anyone who thinks the design of their products to be ugly (if we don't count the obvious trainee designs - battery case etc.)

Apple has a design studio ?!? 60 minutes is about the expose it all .....with the head of design to show them around, and avoid the actual "Secret" parts.

There will be some good footage for the fans at least. Enjoy.

As always your greatest asset is also your greatest problem too.

Can you just imagine how dull and boring the world would be if every building, every hotel, every device and every car had the same idea of styling and design, what a dull and boring world it would be.

This is where Apple is. Sure it's cool and nice and all that,. but it's getting so tired now.
They dare not change what works, but how long do you just stick to the same path?

5, 10, 20, 50 years?

Sure, as we all know. Not every new design and new idea is a winner, but they add spicy, diversity and excitement to the world we all love, and travel around to see new and different things.

Apple is really now of the edge of being THE boring safe monolithic company they once scorned.

Unfortunately whilst the same old boys are running the place it's not going to change.
It can take 2 generations to change.

Old boys replacements are trained by the old boys, so they only change a bit.
It's not till these new ones are replaced their their successors do you often start to see real fresh blood at work.

So, do Apple have the in-house facilities to build a fully functioning iPhone from scratch, just in small numbers? Or do they just do concept design work i.e aluminium casing designs, and then get the factories to do the heavy lifting?

Even in that picture you know that Ive is talking about making things thinner.

Good. Thinner pushes the engineers to produce increasingly small and more efficient components which leads on to better gadgets and new product categories.

The place where Apple designed bendable iPhone 6
The place Apple designs iPhone 6 and 6S with protruding cameras
The place Apple designs phones with low battery life and an unimaginably ugly battery case to compensate for it
All because thinness is the only religion Apple follows

And lastly, the new Magic Mouse and Pencil that have such terrible lightning port implementations, even Samsung could do a better job
