Charlie Rose? Seriously? Why not somebody like David Pogue at least?
And that's what people want.
The number one complaint about the Apple Watch is how damn slow it is. Sometimes you can make things faster by making them a little thicker, but not with the watch. It's way too chunky and too slow at the same time, because the technology isn't there yet. The whole product category is a failure, not just one design.People on this forum crack me up. First, anytime Jony gets mentioned, you always get the parade of clowns mocking Jony and "thinness", but when the Apple Watch was revealed, those same people criticized how "chunky" it was.
Is it a hell of a lot easier to put your phone in and out of this ugly case? I'm not convinced. However, good design is when aesthetics and functionality come together. When you have to sacrifice one or the other, it's bad design and deserves criticism for what it lacks. Then they criticize Apples focus on aesthetics (sometimes at the cost of functionality), but those are the same people mocking Apples battery case for looking "ugly." Something that was designed for practicality and ease of use, at the cost of aesthetics. Something that's a hell of a lot easier to put your phone in and out of the case, feels less chunky in the hand, and is easier to charge. At the cost of aesthetics.
Yes we did. Since you aren't Jony Ive either, why should we care about your opinion? Come back when you've made some industry defining decisions yourself and tell us about your insights. In the meanwhile the hundreds and thousands of different phone cases out there should have been a hint at how important aesthetics are for this kind of fashion-oriented accessories. Besides the Apple battery case is also criticized for it's functionality, because it holds less than one full charge of the iPhone. So you can't really love it for how much energy it stores or how cheap it is either. You guys don't even know what you want to complain about anymore. You just want to criticize for the sake of it. Because we all know forum trolls have made as many good, industry-defining decisions like Jony and Apple have in the past. Yep, you guys sure outsmarted that old fool Jony Ive.
As always your greatest asset is also your greatest problem too.
Can you just imagine how dull and boring the world would be if every building, every hotel, every device and every car had the same idea of styling and design, what a dull and boring world it would be.
This is where Apple is. Sure it's cool and nice and all that,. but it's getting so tired now.
They dare not change what works, but how long do you just stick to the same path?
5, 10, 20, 50 years?
Sure, as we all know. Not every new design and new idea is a winner, but they add spicy, diversity and excitement to the world we all love, and travel around to see new and different things.
Apple is really now of the edge of being THE boring safe monolithic company they once scorned.
Unfortunately whilst the same old boys are running the place it's not going to change.
It can take 2 generations to change.
Old boys replacements are trained by the old boys, so they only change a bit.
It's not till these new ones are replaced their their successors do you often start to see real fresh blood at work.
May not seem that huge but its the biggest changes since they incorporated the wooden tables. Up until now most stores have a stainless steel design.
You. Are. My. Hero.People on this forum crack me up. First, anytime Jony gets mentioned, you always get the parade of clowns mocking Jony and "thinness," but when the Apple Watch was revealed, those same people criticized how "chunky" it was.

Because we live in a physics based universe, we can know what people want without ever asking them. We know a faster processor is better. We know a longer lasting battery is better. And we know a lighter portable device is better. When using the same materials, lightness comes with smallness. You don't want to sacrifice screen size so the size is already fixed in two dimensions and thinness in the third dimension is the only way to make the device smaller and lighter. People don't care about your latest phone, all they want is fast, long and light. If last years phone would be able to compute everything instantly, it's battery would last forever and it would weigh literally nothing, people wouldn't look at your new phone. Because "nothing" is the best amount of weight to carry around in your pocket. How do you know that? If people love my phones, and they want the latest phone I make, and my latest phone is thinner, people buy it. That does not for 1 second mean people want that, it's just that it's the only thing I am offering them. Take it of leave it. If I did offer a choice THEN we would know.
Thank god we don't have to do that, because newer microprocessors tend to be faster, smaller and more energy efficient at the same time. All this progress comes at the little cost of having to charge your portable device. Why doesn't someone create a small coin cell battery that comes loaded with all the energy the phone will need during it's lifetime? Maybe there are some boundaries of physics. It would be lovely to see Apple offer say a thicker iPhone which had a much longer batter life, and perhaps also higher specs due to the extra thickness and THEN see which model people pick.
Yea, if your talking about the store having a ceiling, wall and floor.
Its going to have new tables (look familiar), new accessory section, Huge tv in the back, Different style genius bars, different stools, and accents in the store (posters, plants etc.).
May not seem that huge but its the biggest changes since they incorporated the wooden tables. Up until now most stores have a stainless steel design.
The apple store of the future looks a lot like those in the present.
I'm so sorry you are bored. Just five years ago Apple gave us the first ever tablet without ports, fans, windows and files. All while Microsoft is still figuring out the convertible Tablet-PC from 2002 with mouse pointer and pen input.Apple is really now of the edge of being THE boring safe monolithic company they once scorned.
Probably because then Apple wouldn't have allowed the interview? Though I assume the entire interviews questions and what the camera saw was vetted by Apple...and NDAs for things not seen by the camera or the things forced out in editingCharlie Rose? Seriously? Why not somebody like David Pogue at least?

Exciting new **** from Microsoft coming soon!

You nailed.People on this forum crack me up. First, anytime Jony gets mentioned, you always get the parade of clowns mocking Jony and "thinness," but when the Apple Watch was revealed, those same people criticized how "chunky" it was.

That's too big of a risk to take. What if Apple decided to give its next iPhone a thicker battery, and possibly higher specs (with a correspondingly higher price) and it turned out to not be successful? For their flagship product and biggest moneymaker, they're not going to leave that to chance. How do you know that.
If People love my phones, and they want the latest phone I make, and my latest phone in thinner, people buy it.
that does not for 1 second mean people want that, it's just that it's the only thing I am offering them.

Apple does not do that so your statement is not correct.
It would be lovely to see Apple offer say a thicker iPhone which had a much longer batter life, and perhaps also higher specs due to the extra thickness and THEN see which model people pick.
So than it's a completely different bad compromise? The way they keep reinventing the hinge on these things every year strikes me as there might be no satisfying solution to convertibles at all. None of them rival the iPad experience of just "holding a screen in your hand". I know some people are put off by the iPad, because they can't plug their USB sticks in there and just "copy a file". But isn't that the dare to change what works? The new idea which might not always be a winner? The spicy path to diversity and excitement?Microsoft then: Mouse-based interface with a touch input
Microsoft now: Touch-based interface with a mouse input
This episode will become mandatory viewing for all Samsung designers and engineers.

Tim Cook also thought Jony Ive was capable of doing UI design. I'm sorry but Tim Cook doesn't always show the best judgement in regards to what's best for Apple. Tim Cook is a business guy, not a visionary so maximizing profits is his main concern not the quality of the products and services.Tim Cook disagrees with you

I admit... when I first looked at the headline "What the heck is Angela Ahrendts doing at Apple?" I thought it was gonna say how she is ruining Apple Retail and Online Stores.
But it sounds like she's doing good work.
and this is the guy Steve Jobs appointed to replace him. So I guess Steve Jobs is the ultimate idiot?Tim Cook also thought Jony Ive was capable of doing UI design. As I have said before, Ahrendts was probably the one who made the idiotic decision to remove the dedicated store page on their website. The stores' annual promotional sales have either become stingier (Back to School) or completely non-existent (Black Friday).
Indeed they did and this was great.
The only problem is that WAS 5 years ago, and all they have done if fiddled with it since then.
