I keep checking Spectrums site for updates and haven't seen anything. This is disappointing the app is still not ready especially since it works fine on iPad.

People still subscribe to cable and then choose watch it through their ATV?

Yes Spectrum is the only source for internet in my neighborhood and their spectrum tv app at $22 is a far better value than most streaming services. All I watch is local news (no fiddling with TV antenna) ESPN TNT HGTV Food Network.

Got tired of waiting for the app to come to Apple TV so I got a Roku Ultra during thanksgiving weekend. Works much faster than my Samsung TV app.

It took DTVN almost two years to get reliable quality and a functioning DVR, so I can see how Spectrum could be working on this for a long time, depending on when they deem the service functioning well enough to launch. I have both Spectrum and DTVN at the moment, would be great for the rest of the industry to catch up in the online streaming arena.

The existing app has two major shortfalls - it doesn't stream very much content in 60 fps quality, and many channels don't work when on-the-go outside of your home wifi. DTVN on the AppleTV is the target to aim for.

Another deadline missed by Apple (let’s not forget the long promised charging pad for the iPhone, Apple Watch, and Air Pods). Steve Jobs would have had people’s heads for that.
[doublepost=1545177779][/doublepost]THATs not an apple issue. It’s a spectrum issue I have called and spectrum has told me there’s some issues with the app itself

Well, then...Charter Spectrum can count me out as a video subscriber until at least then.
But, probably for longer than that. I cannot stand to watch live tv. Commercial, after commercial, after......
The current tv model has a looooong way to go.

Probably Spectrum. Apple is not creating apps for them.
Don't forget about the networks, that OVERvalue their programming. Even when it is good, they ruin it with commercials. It used to be, they either got their revenue from commercials, or subscribers. Then, they thought, "Why not both"?
That is how companies like Netflix are changing things.
However, the old people on the board of these companies (networks and providers) are going to cling to the old model for as long as they can...then retire. Until then...:(

Probably for the best. Maybe they (Spectrum) are actually trying to make sure the app doesn’t suck. I use their Roku app on a couple TVs and it usually has outages one or more days per week...and they always start around 8 to 9 PM (when people actually want to watch prime time TV).

Spectrum is garbage. I subscribed just to get login credentials for channel apps, which only work for about 1/2 of the channels I pay for. It’s the only way I watch tv. I could care less about their crappy app, I just want charter to allow me to login to all the channels I paid for.

Problem with cord cutting for me is this

In Florida. I get hit with a whopping 13% communications sales tax for streaming services like YouTube tv, Hulu live, even renting from amazon movies. It’s a sneaky thing the cable lobby did in Florida to make it more expensive.

So YouTube tv is $40 plus taxes. That’s like $45.

With promos and credits. I can get my direct tv satellite bill down to $50/month for choice with 3 boxes. So not worth it for me to cut the cord to go to Hulu live/YouTube tv. Spectrum has similar prices.

I’m still waiting on Fios to get single sign-on. At least CS has plans for zero sign-on. Pretty sure Verizon has no plans for either of these :/

This isn't (completely) Apple's fault, so I don't know why anyone is saying that.

While I can't remember where I saw it, either here or on Reddit, someone had said that support for this feature within Charter had fallen to near-zero in favor of Altice's own in-home solution. Altice is trying to get the same box across all their new cable system acquisitions and this is obviously a "threat" to that.

I think it's because someone at Charter suddenly realized they forgot to charge a fee for this. They get $11.99/mo per tuner box in rental fees. Why should they support a free solution? I remember their iPhone/iPad app, and how they went through great lengths to kill of HDMI and Airplay capability because they could not stand the idea of having people watch TV on their TV.

This isn't the first time Apple gets screwed over by another company. I remember the AT&T fiasco over the $20 unlimited data plans for the iPad. That lasted all of a month and a half before they killed it off.

So, when and why did the Floridians allow this? No repercussions for the "law makers"?

If it’s anything like the Spectrum app on my Xbox One X they shouldn’t even bother. I can’t believe such a bad UI like this is released in 2018. Even the iOS app is better.

Plus no guide and especially no Dolby Digital 5.1 support still make STBs/DVRs necessary for people who care about audio. Sound bars are all the rage these days but they’re the equivalent of Beats headphones.

I'm betting Spectrum is to blame here. Certain things have been improved by the merged company but lord help you if you are a pre-merger customer of any of the companies. Poor receiver hardware, at least in my area we just got a refreshed and much more attractive guide (in 16:9, rather than 4:3 and black rather than blue). But very, very slow moving because they can be.

I've been able to watch my Spectrum cable TV on Rokus via the Spectrum app for quite a while now. It is rather nice to use my Roku Express which cost $30 on my secondary TV rather than pay Spectrum a ridiculous monthly fee for a second cable box. Why on earth would I want to pay $180 for the newest Apple TV to do the same. I've got an Apple TV 3rd generation that collects dust on a shelf because I can watch SOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH MORE on my Rokus and Fire TVs than with it. The Apple TV 3rd generation won't be able to run the Spectrum app, BTW.

I'm using the Spectrum app on my Roku Ultra and my Roku Express, but the app was free in my region. It works well if I want to record two shows at the same time via the cable box and still watch a third one on the Roku, or when their cable TV signal gets wonky. It is actually a really good picture and streams very well.

And I only have Spectrum because they have the exclusive rights to my neighborhood too. It sucks that the state allows that. I tried DirecTV but they suck worse and reception was terrible every time a cloud floated by.

Sounds like FL is as bad as living here in TX! In TX the state has always been run by Big Business and the lawmakers could care less what We the People think about it.

You setup zero sign on or single sign on? With spectrum? This worked? Details?

I can’t get HGTV or Nick apps to work with manually activating.
Zero sign on, just go to the tv provider under accounts, remove spectrum if it's already there and then re-add it, it will ask if you want to use the account it auto-detected or if you want to sign in manually. Then, most of the apps you just open them and they sign in, some you have to go to the sign in page and then they will work. I haven't tried Nick but I think it worked for HGTV. I had been checking about once a week by removing and re-adding spectrum and now it works great.

Charter has nothing to do with the Zero Sign In part. That is an Apple issue.

According to 9to5Mac, Single Sign-On is live, but the app is delayed to 2019.

DTVN's DVR is garbage. Every show that it records the sounds cuts out every 20-30 seconds. I'm lucky enough that most of my shows are available on their channels' apps. The TV app on Apple TV has been a life saver. DVTN is literally given me the sign in to access the content.

When tvOS 12 was introduced back in June of 2018, Apple announced a new Zero Sign-on feature, a followup to Single sign-on. Zero Sign-on is designed to let you sign into all TV apps automatically when connected to your TV provider's broadband.

At the same time, Apple said the feature would first work with Charter Spectrum, with support expected to be implemented "later this year," aka some point before December 31, 2018. Charter Spectrum is expected to debut a new Apple TV app that will enable the feature and allow Charter Spectrum subscribers to watch cable content on the Apple TV.

It looks like the rollout of the Charter Spectrum app and the Zero sign-on feature is not going to make that deadline, as Apple today updated its Apple TV 4K page to change some of the wording to reflect the delay.

Rather than stating that Charter Spectrum cable subscribers will be able to watch live channels and on-demand programs with Apple TV "later this year," the page now says that the feature is "coming soon."

Prior to today's wording change: "And later this year, Charter Spectrum cable customers can watch live channels and thousands of on-demand programs with Apple TV."

After the wording change: "And coming soon, Charter Spectrum cable customers can watch live channels and thousands of on-demand programs with Apple TV."

That Apple has swapped "coming soon" for "later this year" suggests the Charter Spectrum app and the Zero Sign-on feature will be coming sometime after 2018, perhaps early in 2019.

This will launch in January now
