May sound like a dumb question, but what does a non-iPhone X app look like on the iPhone X? Truncated top?
No, it does not. I just opened mine today after the update and all looks normal on my iPhone 7. This just means it supports the larger screen and "notch" when running on the iPhone X, similar to how applications needed to be updated to support retina displays on the iPhone 4, the larger screens for iPad, iPhone 5, the iPhone * Plus models, etcetera.

Edit: Oops, sorry, I misread your post. I believe the applications that do not support the iPhone X natively will be centered on the screen, and will not change the color of the parts of the screen beside the notch. The area the application doesn't cover will just be blank.

For the record I bank with both and Chase > BOA

Sleeker, more modern facilities. Friendlier consumer policies and just plain cooler looking in every way. BOA isn't terrible but they're a little stodgy.

the chase app has always worked with faceid. he same as it did with touchid. if the app calls for touchid to authenticate, it will just bring up faceid. ive never heard of it working any other way. for example, if there is an app that was originally coded for touchid and you open it on an iphone 10, it will automatically use faceid in its place.

Does the Chase app either currently or with this new release support FaceID as a valid password entering method the way many banks support TouchID? I’m not a Chase customer but the bank I use supports Touch but not Face ID and their explanation is that FaceID isn’t verified secure like TouchID is. If major banks use it then maybe that will speed up my banks acceptance of it. I’m not talking about Apple Pay, but unlocking the bank app. My password is long and complex, which I was willing to do because TouchID can unlock it. My wife has an iPhone X and if she wants to access the account she needs to bring up a password manager to use the bank app, while I can just use my fingerprints.

This is one of the many reasons i am with Bank of America, not witj Chase. Chase’s app support for iPhone and ipad sucks

What??? Bank of America app is the absolute worst. Chase app for iPhone is the best thing I’ve used, next to Capital one. Bank of America app is so much garbage.

Chase app is more advanced, simpler to use and better designed than Bank of America. Oh it’s faster too. Oh and there more features and preferences you can configure or change in the app or website that Bank of America doesn’t even offer.

who are you to decide what people find important?
i have countless options for banks, and frankly they’re all the same when you have direct deposit, with very little to differentiate. a good and functional app in a time when nearly everything is done on an iphone is a compelling reason to use one bank over another. online check deposit for example, if i recall was available on USAA and that would have been a reason for me to use that bank. i don’t want to go to an atm or teller to deposit the random check i get.

not that complicated.

Makes a lot of sense. Pick a bank based on the mobile app not anything else they can offer.

The top banks (like Chase and BOA) have very little to differentiate between themselves in order to compete when it comes to the banking services etc. The mortgage or auto rates are about the same (although I find BOA always having better rates).
At the end it comes down to the little things like additional rewards, mobile apps, ApplePay ATMs, website support etc. Having had both, this is where BOA has the edge compared to Chase. Heck, the Chase's website has been under the redesign for a year or two and they haven't finished it. Many links take you to some ugly/legacy parts of the site that looks like from 80's. The new design is not any better either.
BOA website and mobile app offer a nice portfolio manager (almost like having mint.com or quicken for free) that is integrated into the app/bank site. On the other hand, the Chase website does not even allow you to request a credit card line increase, instead they force you to call their 800 number, really? I could go on and on. There is a reason why BOA app is J.D. Power Mobile App Certified and Chase not.

The bank facilities for both are hit or miss. There are brand new BOA branches out here that are as slick if not slicker than Chase and vice versa, so it really depends on a region/location. I have been to few Chase branches that looked like a dungeon, unlit, with chipped furniture everywhere etc and the same goes for BOA - almost as if the time stopped 30 years ago in those locations.

Well everyone’s different. I think the chase mobile app works great. Does everything I need. I could care less what my banks website looks like and if it’s pretty. Both BOA and Chase are very highly rated on the App Store.
