THIS is why all of this will die. No merchant wants to deal with all of that, Sure Apple Pay and Android Pay. But the rest No. As for the banks, well they are bankers after all, we should not be surprised by their greed.
I don't know if all of this will die, but there certainly will be some losers (maybe not in the sense of losing a significant amount of money, but in the sense of not catching on).

I wonder how much Chase is going to blow implementing and marketing its here a pic, there a pic, everywhere a pic pic dead on arrival MCX QR-based rubbish.
chase creates money.. like for chase, money does grow on trees.
they're probably not too worried about blowing money.
;)

i don't know, i think this chase pay thing is more than what we're seeing/knowing about..
we see 'chase pay to compete with apple pay' etc.
but there's more to it.

I'm convinced that the people on this forum are the only people who actually use Apple Pay. I live in NYC and legitimately never see people using it in the wild. Swiping my Amex card is easier than scanning my iPhone.

I think my Chase credit card is great and I'm proud to say that I will absolutely never use this.

if you are a chase customer just know they are spending your money to do this...
I was a Chase customer due to the fact that they offered a nice bonus for signing up. I had originally an account that was bought up by Chase and they, then closed my credit card. Not due to lack of payment or whatever, they just shut down my card that I had had for several years through different institutions that merged/failed during the banking blowout.
Going forward, I talked to them about business accounts, etc. and they seemed not interested in small business accounts. I have their card on my :apple:watch, but since I don't maintain a higher balance, there is a $10 a month fee.
So, now I was offered a checking account through my Discover card (which is now on :apple:Pay), that had no monthly fee since I have a credit card account. I am in the process of switching everything out of Chase and will close my account at the end of the month. As far as I'm concerned, they bring nothing to the party. QR codes? Really? Didn't we think that MCX was DOA?

This and CurrentC will fail, and fail hard. I've been testing CurrentC for a company for the past several months and it's slow and clunky, customers will never adopt it.

They think that they can work out the 'bugs' and make it less clunky, that is why they are testing in Columbus, OH at this time. But I've been using Contactless for years and will NEVER use currentc or chase pay.. I think QR codes should be for coupons or loyalty information only, those aren't that sensitive compared to your checking account.

Really? So in addition to Apple fans vs. Android fans, now we have to have cash fans trolling? Well a) who the f still uses cash in 2015 when avoidable? You don't get any added value from using cash, and in many ways its just less secure, less convenient, and annoying to everyone involved in a transaction.
Also, I love 19th-century arguments! let's get back on the gold standard!

It's also untraceable/untrackable.

However, having said that, I use Apple Pay wherever and whenever I can, or my debit chip card elsewhere, then swiping (which I hate because everywhere should be AT LEAST chip and pin), and finally cash last.

I'm not exaggerating, it takes longer to pay with CurrentC than using a normal credit card. Now you can argue it's faster than scanning a loyalty card and swiping a credit card separately, but a lot of people don't have loyalty cards. I don't see it catching on.

I disagree. Many, many people like getting store awards and targeted coupons. You'd have to be nuts not to take advantage of such savings.

Heck, many of us frequent the same stores and restaurants EXACTLY BECAUSE THEY KNOW US WELL, and treat us accordingly.

Being anonymous is not beneficial to most people.

As for purchasing privacy, banks have long sold targeted advertising spots and aggregate shopping data. That hasn't changed one bit with Apple Pay.

In fact, a main reason why banks pay Apple is because Apple Pay allows our purchase info to continue to flow to them... while cutting out the merchant.

The biggest difference is, now the merchants have to pay the banks to target us, instead of being able to do it on their own.

I like being anonymous. It should be my choice to be so when I want to. So, cash, when I feel like it.

What the hell is wrong with some people in this forum? Are heads stuck so far up Apple's ass that people aren't receiving oxygen and can't think anymore?
  1. Chase Pay doesn't obviate Apple Pay. Not sure who's the genius who started that virus of an idea.
  2. Chase will still support Apple Pay; along with Android and Samsung Pay.
  3. Chase will also support Chip&Pin and QR Codes.
  4. Chase will be able to reach as many customers as possible with this strategy. Not just Apple customers.
Chase, unlike many in this thread, seems to realize not everyone is Apple Pay capable. There are those with older iPhones or no iPhone. Same with updated Android and Samsung capabilities (everyone is not using the latest and greatest). Some of those unwashed masses can use their chip and pin cards or Chase Pay if they choose. It's an option, not a requirement.

Reading some of these comments is like reading the comment sections from appleinsider, youtube, and yahoo all jumbled together. Embarrassing.
