So how does that work....? You ask ChatGPT about a product and/or service that pays OpenAI for advertising. Would you expect ChatGPT to respond with anything negative about them if they are paying OpenAI a ton of money? It seems like it would be hard to remain neutral if they are also the client.

I would expect that responses less swayed by corporate influence if consumers were paying the bill through subscription fees. Once corporations start becoming the customers, it's all over.

I see this going horribly. Just like the new recommendations they added.

I avoid Open AI because 1) I am sick of Sam Altman, and think he is a creep 2) They were supposed to develop open source models for the good of humanity (thus the name) but gave that up and now 3) 8 dollars a month is about what the product is worth without ads if the technology wasn’t a huge waste of resources.

Machine learning isn't intelligent enough to be called artificial intelligence. It cannot come up with anything creative and merely predicts well worn paths one word at a time. The limits and flaws are getting more obvious as time goes on and the reason many as to why we don't want to have it use be commonplace. Bad actors already have enough sway through platforms that encourage clicks and rage bait.

You’re the product for the Pro plan as well by the way. Do you think because you’re paying more they suddenly stop stealing all your information and data?
Honestly it surprises me how people don’t realize how predatory capootalists are lol financial predators are perhaps more dangerous than other types

I now run Ollama locally and have been very happy with the answers it gives. I have a wide choice of open-source models to choose from, including the ability to keep massive models in the cloud.

People use ChatGPT to get advice. There's a good chance that the credibility of ChatGPT responses will decline in users' estimation because the giver of advice is now also the giver of advertising. Especially if the advertising is targeted on the basis of what you've been discussing. Imagine that you've been talking about your urinary tract infection... and you start getting ads for UTI remedies. That's going to reduce users' eagerness to share widely with ChatGPT, and it's going to raise questions as to whether you're getting the best advice or whether you're getting the advice that best matches the ads.

This isn't like sticking ads into free tiers of streaming video. This is OpenAI fouling its own nest. Ensh!ttification is now officially OpenAI's business model.

The article already addressed your concerns. Open AI will not share data.

Not defending their choice to insert ads — yuck! — but a business needs cash flow.

Amen. My current objective is to reduce my subscription expenditures... not add yet another one.

(And that's entirely apart from my continuing complaint about AI as a misleading marketing term.)

Ollama is free and runs locally on your own hardware. It's a great way to leverage the strengths of generative AI without a subscription or limits on queries-per-day.

Their entire product was built on stolen copyrighted data according to the whistleblower who’s mother saw the crime scene and was convinced he was murdered, along with the police (via body cam audio) who were first at the scene.

ChatGPT/OpenAI belongs to Microsoft now, no? Once upon a time, during the PC vs Mac era, Apple and Microsoft were enemies.

Then the web and online search and cloud era began and Microsoft and Google became the enemies, with Microsoft laughably trying to set up a 'third mobile ecosystem' to compete against Android and iOS, including trampling on Nokia's carcass to do that.

Now the Google- Apple AI collaboration makes sense. Never lose sight of your true enemy.

Might I suggest less pain for iPhone and Android phone users switching platforms in future? Letting Google Cloud and iCloud 'talk' to each other helps a lot. Also, let iTunes sell music on Android.

"Open AI will not share data"

Really? Does anyone believe this? These companies seem to assume we're all idiots!

With the betterment and rise of voice mode of the AI assistants, I wonder how ads will work if/when they get implemented… you will be talking to it and then suddenly interrupt you with an ad? like YouTube or any podcast service?

If you knew me, you would know how much it pains me to say this*, but I hope Gemini buries ChatGPT and its inbred cousin, Grok.

*I do not like Google.

This model the fastest-growing segment for streaming entertainment services, no surprise AI services are doing it as well.
The actual fastest growing segment for entertainment is piracy, because of this model.

But hey, entertainment does have some value. AI slop, not so much.

Genuinely curious but what do you people use AI so much for that you need a subscription in the first place? I ask it occasional questions that should be common knowledge and thus saving me a Google search and many clicks.
