That sentence is misleading. Many paying customers purchase mobile phones which exploit them. Many buy cars which exploit them, etc.

Probably not the best idea to give this away for free when the company will be getting the pants sued off it for copyright infringement (among other things) for the foreseeable future.

Of course not. It’s as cold, lifeless and unsympathetic as Altman, Zuckerberg and Thiel.
I would rather have angry and unkind relatives than a cold chatbot that sends my data to fascistic billionaires.

Exactly. If Apple would just fix the longstanding bug of suggesting a place around the world when there is a much better match a few miles away, that alone would make it look a lot less dumb.

Altman really did already have a billion dollars, turned down more billions from OpenAI, and that's why they could just fire him with a phone call.
With all the back and forth here it's impossible to say what will happen tomorrow. Nearly everyone involved has done a complete 180 from their position, whatever that position was on Friday.
The lesson here is take the equity, even if you already have a billion dollars.
I have the opposite problem. Often, when I am looking for something foreign, Siri will show a local place.
It’s not hard to believe. I don’t need a billion dollars and I would not accept a billion dollars to sell my data to people who definitely want to kill lots of people.

Apple could do well using OpenAI's ChatGPT APIs for Siri. Would make a world of a difference.
I certainly believe that's possible. But you see how crazy people go with a little money. It's probably the single most corrupting influence in human history.
This is why I don't have much hope for them making a search engine. Unless they find and hire the next Larry Page. Search on Apple platforms has often just never been good.
Altman is back at OpenAI, not at Microsoft. The Board has been replaced, and he's CEO.
People's expectations don't align with Siri's current design, which is very different from ChatGPT. It's not using LLM (Large Language Models) to the same extent, isn't designed to learn autonomously, and isn't generative. These were all deliberate decisions, not faults. ChatGPT is generative, but can't set reminders, read your messages or give driving directions at the device level.
My experience with ChatGPT app has been mixed. Sometimes it gives amazing answers to very context sensitive questions but it also gives wrong answers to factual questions with a level of confidence which gives you the impression it is correct. Only when you persist, it somehow corrects itself and starts making excuses. Very awkward. Also, I turned of the microphone as I felt certain answers were related to words I said to the people around me before typing the questions.
Thiel still pulls strings.
