Doesn't seem cheap to me.

Everything feels the same as my old iPad 1, except that it's far lighter. If just a lighter feeling makes you think it's cheap, then it's you, I guess.

Feels solid and nice to me. Feels like glass and metal should - does not feel like cheap plastic or anything like that.

Yep, they used thinner glass, and haven't bonded them all together yet on the iPad like they have with the iPhone -- that's why it feels different than an iPhone, which uses a similar glass thickness. It doesn't bother me, but will take a little time to get used to it.

Is it bad or just different?

It is certainly not as good feeling as the more solid glass on the previous generations, I'll attest to that. But, for myself at least, my reason for getting an Air was the weight, and this is a necessary sacrifice. To be honest I probably won't notice after a few days or a week.

As others have said, it feels cheaper, though I wouldn't say bad. There's just a slightly louder hollow sound when tapping or typing as compared to a muted tap on the 3rd gen iPad and my Galaxy S3.

It's significantly louder to type. My girlfriend is going to hate me late at night.

We'll one thing I've noticed right away is that the screen seems to be a bit more unresponsive when using my stylus or finger. Have to hit things harder or sometimes it takes three or four hits to say delete emails. Restored this from my 3 so not sure if I'm missing a setting or is this just something to get used to. Otherwise really like it so far.
We'll turns out it was my stylus tip, just worn out. Replaced it and now it flys. Really love this baby now and I have more storage to boot!

It was the first thing I noticed when I tapped the screen. Gave out a little "eurgh!" as I didn't like it.

2 hours later I've gotten used to it and it doesn't bother me at all.

It was the same going for the 1 to the 3, the 1 feels like a solid slab of aluminium compared to the 3.

Not bad, just a little different. With the size and weight reduction defiantly the best iPad so far.

I've used a mini before and it doesn't really bother me. I'm sure some people won't like it but I'm guessing for most people it's just something they need to get used to and after a while it won't bother them anymore.

This is the downside of weight reduction... also save Apple some money and increases their gross margin to put in cheaper/thinner glass.

It didn't feel cheap to me, but frankly it felt heavier than I thought.

Of course I had an iPad mini in the past so my expectations were probably too high.

So now I"m torn and trying decide whether I could live with less legibility in the iPad mini with Retina or increased weight in the iPad Air.

Folks, it's thinner and lighter. It's not going to feel as robust as the 3/4. If it did, it wouldn't be thinner or lighter. It's very simple.

Go to a high end wristwatch store and ask to see the thinnest LeCoultre manual wind watch they have. Then compare it to a Seiko diver's watch.

I agree with what OP is saying. Has a plastic feeling which makes the device feel less rich. Yet Apple charging us the same price.

If Samsung's logo was on back we'd be trashing it.

I'll be putting a Power Support crystal on it so doesn't matter to me.

It's lighter though what do your guys expect?

I immediately noticed it too (before seeing this thread). Going back and forth between the Air and my 3rd gen has a very different feel. Interesting that none of the reviewers mentioned this...

Take it you mean "NEVER" If so why would they? They need unit's of the 6 gen iPhone and A8 touch id iPad Air 2. This is what i dislike and why i'm going to a circle where I buy when I want and not based on bias reviews from tech sites wanting a mention at Apple key notes just to get ore traffic.

I have an Air on order and this time round i'm going to get my monies worth out of it, Bored of Apple small yearly updates.

They could easily of done pre orders they never as they wanted lines, glad that never materialised.

That was excruciating to read

This is a non issue

It's just something you get used too. It's not even a trade off, and if were, it would still be worth it

Typing is loud

Give be a break :D

To me this is unfortunate because it does not feel as high end as I'd expect from Apple. The same of my mini last year, which I put a glass screen protector on and that helped. I won't do that with the Air because it will likely just add too much weight.

anyone else feels the screen seems a bit cheap and plasticky?
it has an annoying cheap plastic tapping sound whenever you tap on it, it doesnt feel quite as solid and premium as my ipad 3

Yup...feels plasticky because I have a screen protector on it. :D

Seriously, the tap feel feels fine to me. iPad 3 was solid like a brick and weighed like one too. I'll take that trade b/c the Air still feels like an iPad and not a plastic Android tab.
