netflix was $$9.99 with tons of great original content years ago, now it’s like $24 and rising every year as all these little competitors rise too, it’s not going to end well… and now some are trying to charge based on resolution, which is crazy .

You can get Netflix with ads for $6.99/month and ad-free for as little as $15.49/moth. That's still inexpensive if one feels the content is good. If someone doesn't feel the content is good, they simply shouldn't subscribe.

Frankly I don't care what prices were when I was barely even born. Those prices obviously weren't viable in the long term or we'd still be paying the inflationary equivalent. It also doesn't affect me as a consumer in today's economy. Customers are certainly being given a choice -- pay more for the same product/service you're currently receiving, or become the product yourself.

Once again, streaming services are still inexpensive today by comparison which goes to by previous comment that people became spoiled by the very low prices. Don't like the word spoiled? Perhaps you prefer I say subscribers were misled by too low prices that were not realistically sustainable given the historic costs of subscribing to entertainment content which was much more expensive (at least after adjusting for inflation) decades ago.

Not in 4k you can’t. I’m not paying for something thats under my TVs resolution. it’s crazy. The only reason i have the high end plan is so i get the real res

Apple should implement this only in the EU.
The DMA has pretty good protection for advertisers, so they could even advertise on Google platforms.

I don't know why people keep getting fooled by this...

Uber is just taxis by a different name.
Streaming is just cable over a different cable.
Digital music costs as much as physical media, and most people prefer radio.
Streaming music is just radio that consumes your data plan.

These "new models" get introduced and everyone swears up and down that the world is changing. Everything will be better, and cheaper, and easier, and I'm just a luddite for clinging to the old ways.

But here's the thing: the economics of the situation don't change. Once they've managed to unseat the legacy businesses with low priced initial offerings, these new companies aren't interested in getting less of your money than you were willing to spend before.

If this means more services become Apple TV Channels like Peacock and Disney+ so be it.

Apple have seemingly decided to squeeze every last cent out of consumers that they can

Whatever happened to the ethos of creating more value?

Does this mean that the New Apple TV will be dumbed down to reduce costs? I want a more robust system that allows 4k/120 streaming from Geforce now, along with all my Dolby Atmos, and Vision etc... I dont want a slimmed down system but a beefier one.

sorry but i am not paying for adverts. i get why they want to do it and why netflix etc are doing it but it feels wrong to pay for adverts lol.

if i'm being shown ads then i expect to be getting access for free (well, i know my data is what pays for it lol). companies are far too greedy. they want our data AND money.
So don't pay for adverts. All the top services offer that option.

At some point, streaming becomes so expensive that the managers of these companies are oddly asked if it's easier for us customers to watch them on the Fmoviez site alike and don't pay. The entire beauty of streaming was to have low prices.
At this point Cable is cheaper and more reliable than all these services. I want an ALA cart service where I pick each channel I want for $1 or something.

So, bait and switch, which doesn't really make it better, just scummy in a different way.

The $9.99 price you mentioned in a previous post didn't get you 4K. To get a "higher quality" service or feature, you're going to have to pay more or go without or not subscribe at all. The choice is yours.

I would prefer Netflix offer subscribers more a la carte choices when it comes to number of supported devices, resolution, extra members. etc. rather than, for example, only offer 4K at the premium plan level which may have aspects a subscriber doesn't want/need. However, Netflix's "bundling" practices are a separate discussion.

The $9.99 price mentioned got me the highest quality existing at the time. A tone point they even lowered that cost to $8.99. Nothing was separated by then(which is silly). I mean I pay $1 a month for hulu for years now and its ad supported and it has 4k hdr.

Should be free if they are forcing ads down your throat. Then again apple wants to double dip like the rest.

Apple could be accelerating plans to introduce an ad-supported Apple TV+ tier, based on a number of recent hires by the company.

Business Insider reports that Apple recently recruited Joseph Cady, who worked as an ad executive for NBCUniversal for over 14 years. Cady's focus was on data-driven and targeted advertising, including responsibility for the Comcast subsidiary's partnerships with Amazon, Google, TikTok, and others, according to the report.

Cady is expected to work with Winston Crawford, Apple's head of global ad sales. Apple's TV+ team reports to Crawford, who also helped lead Apple's Major League Soccer ad sales pitch with Todd Teresi, lead of Apple's ads division.

The report also mentions several other recent recruits to Apple's ads team, such as Chandler Taylor (formerly a video ads account manager with Peacock), Jacqueline Bleazey from FanDuel's ad sales team, and Jason Brum, who has worked for DirecTV, NBCUniversal, and more.

Apple has not indicated one way or the other whether an ad-supported tier for TV+ is in the works, but it would make sense given that Netflix, Disney+, and Max all now offer ad-based plans at a discounted price.

Apple increased its TV+ subscription prices in October to $9.99 a month from $6.99 a month, while the annual subscription price increased from $69 per year to $99 per year, so a more affordable option would make sense from a competitive perspective.

I’m sticking with my normal rule about streaming services

Simply do not subscribe and do something else with life

Never paid for Apple TV, what a joke, and now with this update?

At this point, Cable TV looks more enticing, and I have never had a single Cable bill in my life.

Why should it be free? Should Time Magazine or other magazines be free because they have ads? Should The Wall Street Journal or other newspapers be free because they have ads? A pay/ad hybrid model is how content has been delivered for ages including print, television/broadcast, etc. At least with these premium streaming services, subscribers have a choice to go with ads or ad-free. You aren't "forced" to go with the cheaper ad-supported plan.

I get why people may not like ads, I don't get why people think that content with ads should automatically be "free."
