Apple has very strict price control. You wont do any better than an education discount on a brand-new model like this, unless you wait 4-6 weeks for refurbs.

Not true. Apple actually has better prices in the State & Local Gov't Employee Store. If you work for a state or local gov't, even edu. you qualify.
 
So let me cut to the chase: would you (or anyone else) name trustworthy sellers? I'll understand if that's not cool etiquette-wise, just thought I'd ask. Secondly, can this be used in addition to, or does it obviate, the "live.com thing" described by you in your earliest post this thread?

I believe I saw reports of stackability, so give it a go! Worst thing they'll do is say no.

Reputable sellers is a toughey because there are a number of good peeps. You want to look for somebody with a very, very high feedback - and read those comments so you know how the person is to deal with. Be super-vigilant when buying - ebay has been rife with fraud as of late. It boils down to what works everywhere: if it's too good to be true it probably is ;).
