Some companies do offer discounts to home schooled students/parents.

Yeah, the Apple online store for one. Which is why I had to reply and ask where/when Apple stopped doing High school EDU discounts, because as a home schooled High schooler, I should have the hardest time getting discounts, but I got one from Apple...

High school students do NOT get an EDU discount. College students and any teacher get the EDU price. Home schooled students get a discount as well, but it is actually a seperate program.

Rob

You're right! I just went back and read the fine print, and wow, you're right, HS students DON'T get the discount. But it's not so obvious, I mean, the main EDU page asks, and I quote:

"Shop for yourself

Choose one of these options if you are making a personal purchase and wish to take advantage of Apple's educational discounts.

Find Your College or University
Find your K-12 School"

After that screen you pick you school, and are presented with a basic agreement screen that I'm sure very few people read. Normally the "You are not eligible" warnings are presented before the agreement. The agreement is just the fine print that they take you to court with 🙂

As a formally self educated young man, I'm quite honored and respect Apple even more for noticing the home schooled families and their need for EDU pricing over Government/public funded HS (Lords know that I probably have better tech than my local HS though...)

They will probably offer people who bought a new Mac and MAYBE iLife '04 after December 11th and before January 11th an upgrade off for $19.95, so far I haven't seen anything official.

In other words, if you didn't either buy a new computer or a stand alone copy of iLife '04 within a month before Jan 11th, or you aren't buying a new machine after Jan 11th, you will have to pay either $80 or $60 for iLife '05 depending on wether you are a student or not.

Rob
It might be because it's late and I'm tired but your post hardly makes sense. Where did all the "maybe" and "December come from" There are no maybes about it.

It's quite simple. If you bought a Mac after January 11th and it's not either in the box or installed on the HD you apply for the Up to date program and get it shipped to you for 19.95.

If you bought a boxed copy of iLife 04' on or after January 11th you can apply for the Up to Date program and have it shipped to you for 19.95.

"Hardware Up-To-Date
Customers who purchase a qualifying new Macintosh computer on or after January 11, 2005 that does not have iLife ‘05 included can upgrade to iLife ‘05.

If you purchased your system directly from the Apple online store, follow one of these links to participate in the program. Subject to terms and conditions."

"Retail Software Up-To-Date
If you purchased iLife ’04 (M9364LL/A, M9466LL/A, M9364Z/A, M9466Z/A) on or after January 11, 2005, you are eligible to participate in this program.

There is iLife Family Pack, which goes for $99. It allows you to install iLife on up to 5 computers, and notes home use only. I don't see anything saying it all has to be within one home, so if you had 4 other people wanting it, that's $20 each.

I believe its a GIVEN that it should be under ONE AND THE SAME ROOF. However I see no harm in it. 😉 🙂

Try stating your point to Apple Legal. 😉 🙂
