Pretty much everyone in this thread is right in their own way, it's not really a cut and dry argument. Depending on the type of customer and what you want to do, AT&T Next might be a fair deal or it might be terrible.

Just as buying a car, leasing a car, renting a car, and using a taxi are all very different and meant for different purposes.

Personally I always sell my phone when I'm done for as much as I can get for it, so AT&T Next isn't a good deal for me. But virtually everyone I know just keeps their old phones, usually shoving it away in a desk drawer somewhere, where it slowly becomes worthless. Those people would be better off to get at least a little bit out of it back via a trade-in.

How so? Next is simply a 0% APR finance contract that you can pay off at any time.

So if you're buying a $649 iPhone,

You can either not use Next and pay $649 (one payment), and when you're done with the phone, you can sell it for as much as you can get it for.

Or you can use Next, pay $649 (over multiple payments), and when you're done with the phone, you can sell it for as much as you can get for it. The only additional step is that if you're done with the phone before you've made $649 in payments, you make a final payment for whatever you owe towards the $649.

Either method, you end up paying the same price for the phone, and you can sell it for whatever you can get for it at the end.

I think for some folks, paying the $649 over 12 months (which is essentially what folks who upgrade every year, but want to sell the phone themselves are doing) is easier than paying $649 up-front in one payment.

Tons of bad information here.

If you pay the entire term or pay the phone off early...then you OWN it for MSRP financed at 0%.

At month 12 on a Next 12, you keep it or trade it for a new one or pay it off and keep it..trade it..sell it...spit on it... All your choice

Here's the AT&T next options below.
Personally I would never make payments on a phone for a full year and then turn around and hand it in/return it to AT&T and start a whole new next payment plan all over again.
That's just a waste of money.
Better option is to pay it off in full, then sell it and use the money towards your next purchase.
Dont be a sucker.

Options:
AT&T Next 24: Divided into 30 installments; trade in and upgrade after 24 installments.

AT&T Next 18: Divided into 24 installments; trade in and upgrade after 18 installments.

AT&T Next 12: Divided into 20 installments; trade in and upgrade after 12 installments.

AT&T Next with down payment: 30% of device cost down, divided into 28 installments; trade in and upgrade after 12 installments.

i remember last yrs september i get a 6
agremnt 12 payment each month 42.95
so now 1 yrs done around 510 usd

I love your stories and the way you tell them.
Most of my family come to the US 12 years ago and still speak broken English like you. Its funny but most people understand them, some people just give them weird looks and look completely confused not having any idea what they just said:D lol
I send many of my old iphones or ones I get cheap from friends and family and ship back to my cousins and friends in the old country.
Over there used good condition iphone 5C sell for 700 euro, here I can buy for around $180US.

i am not lie
pull first page and see my photo

that upgrade i just check via my social security #

i can upgrade att next this oct and do same way like last yrs -

all installment done ( deal again )

I have no idea what the hell you're actually saying, but if you're done paying off the phone then of course you can start a new NEXT plan. If you're still paying it off, you have to trade it in. AT&T isn't going to give you a phone for free.

,,,
If you try to understand what the OP is EVER actually saying, you'll hurt yourself. Check out his other threads...

Given how Next works and that it's only been a year, it sounds like you can likely upgrade if you trade-in your phone.

why i have to trade in my phone instead of pay all installment done ???

remember all my installment done

which is i dont own nothing from ATT

if i still own they not pull up that chart showing price detail

If all of your installments are truly paid, then you're good.

But your posts read like you only paid 12 installments of $42.95. That doesn't add up the the price of the phone, which means you're not done, which means you'd have to trade-in your phone to upgrade.

Remember, Next 12 requires *20* installment payments before the phone is paid off. You can upgrade after 12 payments, if you trade-in the phone.

Typically Next installments aren't paid off after just one year. You said you are paying $42.95 every month. What iPhone model is that for (with how much storage)?

The cost of that phone is $750 (unless you meant the Plus, which would be more). Doesn't seem like you paid that off yet, unless you made a downpayment of some sort. Not sure why your monthly payments were on the higher side for that phone either.

i dont know how that happend ,,,,will see this fall pre order ATT Next ....,

64 gb gold 6S

like i said if september 12 pre order which is i am new cycle att next i can get it new one ,

Your phone is worth $750 plus taxes.
You paid in $510. So obviously you are not done paying it. If you pay the full 20 months of $42.95 then that equals the price to pay it off in full.
Yes you can upgrade now but you either have to give them back your current phone and start a new next payment plan on the new phone or pay the rest of the amount you owe in full and keep your current i6 64GB.
Math is pretty simple.
Give AT&T a call to be 100% also but Im sure that's what they'll tell you.

i did chat with ATT and the chatter said i can upgrade without take back my current phone ,,,,

also , apple check upgrade doesn't mention about trade in they just show that list price detail ,,,
unknow till 6s pre order bring up ... will see ....

That doesnt make sense.
If you didn't pay off the full amount of what the phone is worth then you will not be able to keep it. They will bill you for the remaining balance of the phone or tell you to return it to them.
