Thanks. That makes sense. It technically doesn't make a difference since I'm paying cash anyway. I'm just weird about the bill staying the same every month.

What a shock, AT&T screwed up my eligibility date *AGAIN*! When I bought the iPhone 5s I paid full price for it out of pocket. For reasons unknown they reset my contract date!

After 45 minutes of arguing with them, they said they can't do anything about it and I need to bring a receipt to an AT&T store. The supervisor said they might be able to fix it. *might* ?!

Seriously, I am getting sick of going through this every single year. I have 2 lines, upgrade one and pay full price for the other.

Pulling the same **** on me... Their rep ended with "It was your choice to sign up for another contract" No the hell it wasn't, that's what happens when you buy the damn phone through anyone.

Get out of AT&T like I am going to.

I have AT&T and got this message "Congratulations! This line is upgrade eligible for a new smartphone with $0 down on AT&T Next; a new way to upgrade each year and get our new lower rate plans. Our fastest way to order is att.com/upgrade. Reminder: Taxes are due at the time of purchase."

Does that mean that a 64gb 6+ will cost $399 (+tax)?

Actually it's $849(+tax). So, whatever is the sales tax in your state.. you'll only have to pay the tax.

I can't tell if you're messing with me or not! You're saying a 64gb 6+ is going to cost me $850 + tax? That's INSANE

So where's the box to order while using the Next plan?
I hope that will be an option on Apple's website.
AT&Ts website sucks on pre-order days.

It's there. Walk through the steps as if you're buying a 5s and you'll see how you have the ability to choose the Next plan. The same steps will be there when the iPhone 6 pre-orders start.

Does anyone know if you can prepay the Next plan? That is instead of the $27/month you just pay the whole thing at the counter? I don't see why AT&T would care and it saves having to worry about the billing changes.

I checked on this. You can do that, but you're not really signing up for the Next plan. Still you get the same benefit.

Signing up for a new 2-year plan and upgrading to a new subsidized phone means your monthly device fee will be $40. You can bring that down by $25 (to $15/mo) by either signing up for Next or by "bringing a phone with you". That "bringing a phone" part equates to having bought your phone at full price from Apple or AT&T (which you'd be doing) or having gotten it elsewhere.

AT&T Next is really a scam! Do your research people.. you will end up paying more with the Next plan. Just look at the review videos on Youtube.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdBuiDrook4

I watched the video, and she's wrong.

She says that t-mobiles plan is better because it lowers the monthly rate if you choose to buy the phone at full price, and AT&T does not. That's incorrect. Maybe that was the case when the video was made, but it's not now.

10 gigs of data in the family share plan costs $100. Each smartphone is $40 additional per month. If you buy your phone outright, the monthly cost is reduced to $15 a month, a $25 savings, which equates to $600 over a 2 year contract. You get no monthly discount if you pay $200 for the phone on a 2 year contract.

Maybe you're not on the family share plan, I don't know. But for me, there are significant savings

I have a better idea

There should be a thing called the Carrier Colloseum where carriers fight over who gets our business.

The first carrier that can set me up with the new 6 or 6+ maxed out will earn my business for the next two years!

AT&T used to be reasonable and give you the full discount every 2 years, and let you pay extra to upgrade in the off year. But now AT&T wants to screw me 3 years in a row. This means they are making more money off me than someone who waiting a full 2 years to upgrade. AND if I pay full price now, they will STILL lock me into another 2 year contract. So screw those *******s. It will cost me less to pay their ETF (which I shouldn't even have!) and go with someone else. So now which carrier is best?

AT&T Next is a ****ing joke for sucker who can't count.

I just called AT&T (didn't read entire thread so maybe someone already posted this) and they said the new two year contract is for online orders only. If you go to a store and buy one and then go home and activate it as your new phone, you don't get locked into a new contract. I'd rather be able to order online and not have to go to a store but at least there is a way around this new contract bs.

I've waited in line at my local Apple Store in the past for product launches, and I've never been able to go in and "test" the different products before. Employees walk down the line and ask you what model you want, and then you get it once it goes on sale. That being said, they MIGHT do it the way you're talking about this year simply for the fact that we can only imagine what they feel like. They have to decide which is less painful, forcing those in line to pick a model and then deal with an unbelievable amount of buyer's remorse over the coming days from people wanting to go up/down a size. Or do they let us decide what we want after playing with them for a few minutes once the doors open, but have all these stragglers who can't make up their minds holding up the line. All I know is, I'm so glad I'm not in that position

Usually the setups I see are a line outside the door and then other people browsing the phones or whatever was released inside. As long as you're not planning on ordering and waiting in line, I think you can go inside. I'm not interested in ordering in the store, I just want to test the phone out. I'll order online once I've figured out which version I want.

How is that 'insane' ?

The full non contract price has always been $600-$900, since 2009. Maybe you didn't realize it and thought it was only $200, but that was the subsidized price which forced you into a 2 year contract (with $400 cancellation fee)

Sorry if this has been asked already but ...

I'm grandfathered in to Unlimited Data on AT&T and I don't want to lose it.

In the past I have tried to Pre-Order and they give you options on Apples site requiring a Data plan and Unlimited is never there.

I always have to wait and get a guarantee from a rep a few weeks after everyone else got one.

Is there a known way to keep my unlimited data and join the Pre-Order party ?

Just curious...Why would that matter?

Would hate to get to ATT and realize they only have one or neither of the phones. Best Buy is probably sure to have both, but where I live requires a bit of travel time and planning around heavy traffic. A little foresight and my trip to the store is easier.

Once my 2 year contract is up on AT&T, does my monthly bill drop since I have essentially paid for the phone? If it does and it is cheaper to buy a phone without a contract, then I would chose that option. If it doesn't drop, and I am continuing to pay the same contract price off contract, then it only makes sense to upgrade. I may be waaay of base here. Any advice here would be helpful...

Yes, you get a $15 or $25 discount

If I didn't have the unlimited plan, I would have bailed on them at this point

I thought $850 is how much a contract free 64gb 6+ costs. I've had an iPhone 5 for over a year (year and a half maybe?) I can't believe it costs that much money if I want to buy a 6+.

How does AT&T's jump program handle taxes? Do you pay the taxes up front and then pay the monthly fee, or do the taxes get split up in the monthly fees?

of course.
At the end of the day where i live there is not many options in terms of carriers. AT&T is the best for signal. I had Verizon and did not work well and T-Mobile I have never tried but I have not heard great things about them.

Check out Cricket (formerly Aio) $45 a month and uses AT&T towers

----------

that's funny, I alway thought the none S version fixed the previous one!

3g fixed useless edge, 4 fixed the bad display on the 3gs, and the 5 was a slightly larger 4s on a diet and the 6 finally addressed the little iPhone display.

3Gs fixed the 3g, then they came out with the new design in 4 and fixed that with 4s, 5 was a new design fixed in 5s and so on. The release cycle is like that, the non S is a new design and next model is a refined version.

I'm curious, as I've done this in the past, can you still use another line on your plan to upgrade and then have the account switched over once the phone is in your possession? I'd imagine it still wouldn't be a problem, just curious before I use a family members upgrade and then cannot switch it over to my line. BTW, i have AT&T if that makes a difference.

More smoke and mirrors so you can't figure out what's going on until the end where you realize you were screwed. But only if you can do math. The regular schlubs just get screwed and don't know it.

I've done it numerous times, you should be fine, just select to keep current plan when checking out.

Have you ever tried to buy an iphone from anything between pre-order day and 3 months after? Buying it in store is pretty much impossible.

Attached is for ATT if you are eligible 2 year contract price. I checked the site to confirm.
My original date was for the 15th of this month, so it looks like they backtracked it so I am eligible for preorder on the 12th, and I didn't even have to call and ask.

I'm still on the unlimited data plan.

I hate that these companies charge an "upgrade" or "activation" fee. It's BS, because it doesn't cost them anything to do it. They're just using it as an excuse to cut into the subsidy. They're all scum.

Umm, not always true. When iPhone 4S came out I woke up on Saturday morning, put my 4 on craigslist for $375, sold it within ten minutes, went to Pentagon City Mall that afternoon, stood in line for about 10 minutes, bought the new phone, then met the buyer of my old phone down the hall and exchanged the phone for cash.

There were people behind me in line who were still getting phones when I left.

Just once. I got the 4S at my local apple store a week after release.

I completely agree. I don't know if there would be an activation fee if you by one at full price and then just do a switch using iTunes. Maybe someone else here knows.....
