I got the 5S the day it came out.
So I guess with AT&T, I can either pay full price for the device, or do the AT&T Next.

The date for the contract is 2015, not 2014 like on the OP.

I thought $850 is how much a contract free 64gb 6+ costs. I've had an iPhone 5 for over a year (year and a half maybe?) I can't believe it costs that much money if I want to buy a 6+.
How is that 'insane' ?
The full non contract price has always been $600-$900, since 2009. Maybe you didn't realize it and thought it was only $200, but that was the subsidized price which forced you into a 2 year contract (with $400 cancellation fee)
I'm confused... So you can get your iPhone at upgrade price if you wait until the 21st but if you preorder it its way more?
How does AT&T's jump program handle taxes? Do you pay the taxes up front and then pay the monthly fee, or do the taxes get split up in the monthly fees?
I just called AT&T (didn't read entire thread so maybe someone already posted this) and they said the new two year contract is for online orders only. If you go to a store and buy one and then go home and activate it as your new phone, you don't get locked into a new contract. I'd rather be able to order online and not have to go to a store but at least there is a way around this new contract bs.
21st of 2015. Pretty sure the original story has the wrong year listed.

I already knew this, but my upgrade is July of next year. That will stink, having an upgrade and having to wait almost three months to get the updated phone!

I plugged my information into AT&T and used the *639# thing and found this tidbit out:
I purchased an iPhone 5s 32GB Gold a few months ago and used the 12mos. Next plan. Apparently, if I want to upgrade to the 6/6+ all I have to do is bring my phone with me, trade it in, pay the additional payments up to the 12th month and I become eligible for a new phone. I think the page said it would cost me 375 dollars plus my phone turned in.
Does anyone have any insight on what a tier 2 AT&T store might have in stock? Mostly interested in a iPhone 6+ Gold 64GB model...
Thanks!![]()
The original story isn't wrong. It depends on your specific case and how you've upgraded in the past, etc. I'd have to pay full price on the 12th but will get a partial upgrade ($200 off) on the 21st of 2014. Some people are already eligible for and will get a partial upgrade on the 12th, but would get a "full upgrade" price on the 21st of 2015.
Best is just to use the eligibility checker and see for yourself. The poster above who said he would have to pay full price or get AT&T Next is reading the prices wrong. He's getting a discount now even without AT&T next (no upgrade pricing 64GB iPhone 6 is going to be $749, not $549 as in his chart).
I purchased in the store (full price) and they still renewed my contract.
For both the subsidized $200 and the regular price phone, you pay the taxes up front. But for the $200 phone, you only pay taxes on the $200 not the full price, at least in my state.
In the next plan you pay $0 for the phone initially, but owe taxes on the full amount immediately.
I bought the iP5 2 years ago on Sept 14th. My upgrade notification says that I can upgrade with a 2 year service agreement and a $40 upgrade fee. Is the $40 always there or is it because it's 2 days early?
I ordered the T-Mobile contract-free iPhone 5s and it was exactly the same. Inserted my AT&T sim and activated through iTunes and received the "Congratulations your phone is unlocked" message". Hope this helps!
