My misunderstanding is only because AT&T refuses to make the total costs clear for a given plan. It's just bits of monthly charges, which will inevitably be added to other charges and fees. That's because they want to hide the true and final cost from their customers.

This means nothing. It doesn't tell me nearly what _my_ bill will be.

It's pretty easy to figure it out if you just go on their website and add what you want to the cart.

For example, I just went on and selected Mobile Share 2GB for $40 per month. This is the plan/data cost.

It's $40 per line to add a line, but if you do next, you save $15 per line. This is the line cost.

With the AT&T Next, a 16GB 5S is $22.92 per month. This is the phone cost.

$40 (data) + $25 (line) + $23 (phone) = $88 plus tax.

It gets cheaper the more lines/devices you add.

Help please! Sorry if this is a stupid question...

I have AT&T and got this message "Congratulations! This line is upgrade eligible for a new smartphone with $0 down on AT&T Next; a new way to upgrade each year and get our new lower rate plans. Our fastest way to order is att.com/upgrade. Reminder: Taxes are due at the time of purchase."

Does that mean that a 64gb 6+ will cost $399 (+tax)?

I have a question. I'm under my dads Verizon account. Can I switch my iPhone which still has a year of contract left to his number (which doesn't have a active contract), so my number will be free for an upgrade?

No need to do anything tricky or complicated.
I work for Verizon. What you're wanting is an "alternate upgrade".
We do them every day!!!!! Easy as pie, the rep will know EXACTLY what you're talking about.

Note: be aware that it WILL put your dad's line on a contract again of course; so don't do it if he's leaving VZ anytime soon, lol!

I see some people get the whole idea of the difference in having no contract fees on your monthly plan. I was pleasantly surprised when AT&T offered me new mobile share plan which essentially wiped out the added contract fees mid contract. I had 2 phones less than a year old and a 3rd just over a year old. Once I changed I dropped 80 bucks a month off my bill.

Once I go in and get 2 new phones on the Next plan my bill will go back up to close to what it was with the payments for the phones, yet next year I can do the same thing again, perfect.

One question I have is if anyone knows how the down payments work. I know you have to pay taxes up front on the device, but does the Next plan essentially wipe out the 199.99 or 299.99 cost to purchase the phone? I had planned on trading in 2 phones which are valued at about 500 together, and also would cover the down payment on them. But if I have no down payment, and after taxes, I should actually have money in my pocket. ANyone who can confirm this or set me straight would be awesome. Thanks!

My cost for a 128gb 6+ on AT&T is $749 with a renewal of a 2 year contract or 20 payments $47.45 that totals $949... No brainer.

I think you'll change your mind once you factor in the no contract monthly subscription savings. I think it's $20 or $25. Either way, at a savings of $20 a month times the 24 months during a two year contract, you save $480.

Actually it's $849(+tax). So, whatever is the sales tax in your state.. you'll only have to pay the tax.

As much as I am looking forward to upgrading my 4S. I'm going to wait until to end of September or start of October. I don't want to risk have any first batch manufacturing defects and I don't like the big rush and back orders.

I'll live until I can casually walk into an Apple Store and pick one up, but I'm glad for all of you who get a launch day device, it must be exciting. :)

Well I'm gonna wait 'til mid-Oct. for the rush / batch errors to clear..

Not with their new contracts it isn't.

You're a sucker NOT to be using AT&T Next.

If you've got a 10gig plan like I do, I pay $25 LESS per month using AT&T Next vs. going for a 2-year contract. My bill is $600 LESS than going on a 2-year contract. That makes my $650 phone only $50 - not $200.

If I stayed on 2 yr contract with Family share (10GB limit for 4 lines ) would be $260 v $160 via Next program ... Yes its $10 per GB still but the price per line from $40 to $15 a line ...

I'll be paying $75 in phone tax and accessories cost / tax -- So I might be pushing $220 before trade-in of iPhone 5 -roughly $40 outta pocket

over the 12 month payment is only 510 then you can decide if you wanna "own" fully by only pay the rest of due amount @340 or trade-in n get next iPhone 6S and iPhone 6 payments stop once you trade-in ... 6S payments @ what storage size you decide...

This helped me quite a bit actually: Yes, they are slightly oversized with the cardboard so I could theoretically account for the Apple leather case. :)

Wow! Those ARE really useful. The 5.5" actually feels very right in my hand and the 4.7" is even feeling a little too small!

Does anybody have a breakdown of costs between subsidizing an iPhone 6 or 6+ or buy it upfront and get an AT&T plan without the phone on it?
I wonder what the savings are.

Thanks for the response. I just got done chatting with Verizon, they said everything you just did. We been with Verizon for over a decade, it will most likely stay that way! We will just lower our plan because we never use close to whats provided.

Me too. I told my friend who wants to upgrade from his iPhone 5 to just wait because every time he's gotten an iPhone on the launch day (1st batch) something is wrong with the phone. (Last time he had problem with lock button being stuck). Plus, if you can wait till November most likely retailers like Best Buy or Target will probably have a promotion of $49 off. I see it every year.

But most likely when I do decide to upgrade I will just go into a AT&T store or Apple

Nowhere does it say that. My only other option is to go and checkout the purchase.

So tell me what would be monthly cost be if I got Next with a 2GB data plan and a 128GB iphone 6 plus?

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I haven't found a definitive answer: If we preorder online Friday at midnight, will we get the iPhone 6 / 6 Plus on our doorstep on the 19th, or will it leave the factory in China on the 19th?

Also... will there be free shipping?

No T-Mobile Pre-Orders from Apple Store App?

The Apple website appears to be set to offer the non-contract T-Mobile version from the get-go, but when I open the Apple Store App from my iPad, I see only AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint. On my iPhone 5S, it offers AT&T only, presumably because that's the SIM I have installed (it's actually a Verizon model).

I plan to attempt to pre-order the T-Mobile version from Apple to avoid the crowds on launch weekend. If that doesn't work (pre-orders sold out quickly last year), I'll take my chances on launch weekend (some of the Chicago stores had them that Saturday). Note that the T-Mobile version sold by Apple is unlocked, but the phones purchased directly from T-Mobile are locked, and they won't unlock them unless you've used their service for 40 days (basically a full cycle plus the "stub period" from 9/19-9/30).

Also... will there be free shipping?

Yes on the free shipping. Generally, if you order before they "sell out" of the pre-orders, you get it on the launch date.

So it wipes out the 199.99 or 299 because you spread out the unsubsidized price of the phone (649, 749, etc) over 24 months with the option to upgrade in 12 or 18. I talked to an AT&T rep today as I am on a Mobile Share plan with my parents. They switched the plan from a normal contract and upgraded to the 5c in March through NEXT. We received a $25 discount on each line because of the Mobile Share/NEXT. This made my line around 20 bucks a month instead of the usual $45. The rep gave me 2 options. If I upgraded through NEXT adding $35.83 to my line price each month, paying a total of about $56 each month. If I upgraded by paying the full subsidized price of $399 plus $40 activation fee, I would lose the $25 discount on my line, raising it to the original $45/month and I believe that comes with a contract. If I keep the phone for 24 months, I end up paying about $190 less over the life of the phone if I go with the NEXT. If I wanted to upgrade earlier than 24 months, I could at 12 or 18 with NEXT but would have to wait until 24 with the contract. Another thing to watch out for, which they don't make very public is if I buy upfront, I would put myself on a 2 year contract. That would also limit my line and possible the other lines if I wanted to change carriers or plans.

Not if you take the monthly service into account.

Depending on your plan, there may be as much as a $25/month reduction in your service, if you buy the phone up front (no contract) or use AT&T Next. That's $600 over a 2 year period.

I don't quite follow what they are promoting here, but a 2-year contract for a 128G iPhone 6+ is $499, per Apple's webpage. If you buy it outright (or through Next), it's $949. So, that's a $450 difference at the time you buy the phone.

If you go the 2-year contract route, you pay $499 + $960 in device fees for service over two years, compared to $949 + $360 in device fees with AT&T Next or no-contract. That's $150 more, over two years.

Again, it depends on your plan. The entry level data plans don't offer the $25/month per-device discount ($15 vs. $40/device/month).

It usually leaves China early enough for it to arrive at your doorstep on the 19th. In the past, people have received their iPhone a day early, after the shipment was delivered early.

Anytime I have preordered something from Apple I have received it on release day. But I am going to try the in store route this time.

I pre-ordered the 5s but didn't make the initial cut, so I ended up canceling it and getting one at a store a week later. Maybe try pre-ordering and see if you get in line successfully for the first shipment, if not, cancel and head to a store. A few times last year, apple allowed online ordering/pickups at stores. It was only like 1 or 2 days they did I it initially though.
