Not needed. You can connect the ACD with any DVI-port, for full resolution a dual-link-DVI is mandatory.

With most adapters you're usually limited to full HD, the Apple converter (even used expensive) is the only one which converts DP to DL-DVI.

I use a few DL-DVI with my 2013MP. I needed the converter to use with a KVM for Windows back in the day.
Not sure of late, no PCs to use.

yea pretty sure. so just buy this and i can get full resolution? i dont think the desktop im getting has usbc though

That DL-DVI does not use USB-C. It has the old miniDP which also worked on the old TB2 port.

im trying to conncect this to a pc desktop not mac. thunderbolt is mac no?

That is a miniDP end. You then need to get a converter to whatever your PC is.
If its VGA then all this is useless.
not sure what your PC is but Ive had easier experience finding a miniDP to DP or HDMI converter in the PC world.
