This whole thing stinks. Why is China only now since the very beginning of the pandemic are they implementing such strict measures? Does it have to do something with the Russian war? Creating global chaos to take the heat off Russia?

Still greater than a 99% chance of survival in even the most “at-risk” groups. Which, by the way, doesn’t include kids.

Sounds like you’re the one who needs to lay off the CNN.

Also I’m not going to entertain long-covid fear-mongering from the same people who couldn’t care less about ethics in science or medicine and potential short- and long-term side effects induced by the “vaccine,” such as its disruptive effects on the female menstrual cycle and fertility.

I’ll take my chances with a virus with a nearly 100% rate of survival, regardless of its potential lasting effects, and you and many others will apparently take their chances with both the virus and the jab—since the latter doesn’t seem to affect transmission/inoculate against the former.

The general policy is not negotiable, it has been discussed and coined in Beijing.

If there is a spread China’s medical system does not have enough ICU resources to cope with it. This is not something elastic that can be created quickly. It takes decades to train the ICU medic staff.

Also, no one in China believes what you believe about vaccines. China is atheist at large and very STEM oriented.

There is no such thing—health is a personal responsibility and only the thickest of fools (apparently a lot of people) would trust the government with such a responsibility. Teach your children how to eat healthy, to get exercise, sunlight, and fresh air, good hygiene, and basic survival skills. Knowing how to take care of oneself and listen to one’s own body is far more effective than any draconian, corrosive “public health” ordinance.

Yeah, that’s a very individualist view, and East Asians are collectivists.

You not only need to take care of yourself, but also others around you, regardless of you know them or not. You need to wear a mask not because it protects you, but because it protects others from you, just in case you are infected. Etc.

Yeah, well in America, you can tell psychos who try telling you what to do to **** off. That’s part of the beauty of this country.

It's been suggested 6% of deaths were due to covid alone, while 94% died with comorbidities so -- not to be callous by any means -- they were at risk anyway. I'm sure the vast majority of people haven't been studying infectious diseases and complications from infections. Political agendas and media clickbait don't get the throw out a century of science.

You really should read the article you cited to the end, where it says that for 91% of the cases where multiple causes were cited, COVID was clearly the primary cause. In the other 9%, COVID was indeed only a contributing factor. The article also goes into detail on the limitations of death certificate data; and points out that in many cases, where co-morbidities are reported, they may actually have resulted from COVID, since death certificates don't make that distinction.

Foxconn workers live in a dorm on site. Their schedule does not given them the flexibility to leave the premises Which is this case may limit or prevent a long term lockdown

I guess this means more buyers settling for base models at the store and refurbs. This is certain to affect those ordering CTO models. I’m sure Apple anticipated this.

It means sellers on the grey marketplaces have spiked their asking price and holding firm until lockdown and shipments gets restored back to normal (or at least 30 days after such announcement). :(

I will have to hurry in order to get my 13 mini. My only doubt is, red or midnight? Uhm…

EXACTLY What I’ve been thinking this past week - regarding getting my 13 mini.

Black or the lighter blue shade (I have the better blue in 12 mini currently).
ordering from my carrier on Monday 512GB full - even though it’s overpriced from retail. Saving my 12 mini for 13 Pro trade in or another 13 Mini (I’m still debating on that last move).

Well, production in India has started. So this is a good step forward.

Just for iPhone 13 only thus far.

Nothing about MBP, Mac Mini, MBA, Mac Studio, accessories :(

If this lockdown goes for another 30 days - a lot of industries and consumers will feel the pain.

Real collectivist of you to cock it up in that Wuhan lab eh

(joking - mostly)

It's going to be a long few years for China. And a long recovery for the global economy if they really insist on letting the impact of Covid drag on there and manufacturing takes a hit.

You’re speculating without any clue. China has had these strict measures from the very start. They were lifted when covid was under control. But there’s a new outbreak now. Not everything needs to be a conspiracy.

The root problem is that the chinese vaccine is so ineffective that even though almost everyone got vaccinated with mandate, they basically had no protection and back to where they were 2 years ago. Unless the entire country again getting vaccinated with Pfizer or Moderna this will just be an endless cycle of lockdown. There’s no end in sight.

I call BS on that claim. Sorry. I agree it takes decades to build a health infrastructure ... which China has sorely neglected. But training an ICU staff (assuming there are educated and capable doctors, which I know there are) takes a matter of weeks.

China needs its draconian lock down policy because because of the poor state of its healthcare system, caused by decades of neglect. Over loading the healthcare system would likely cause as many, if not more, deaths than the virus itself. This reality could very well threaten the social order and, ultimately, the CCP itself.

So, in my opinion, the lockdown policy in China is more about the CCP's fear of losing control than it is about public health.

Crazy country. Do they expect to lock down their borders for tourism forever as well? Like … Covid will never go away. Everyone should know this by now.
Can't blame them. China is a different beast. Their lockdown methods did work in the beginning, but like Ian Malcolm said in Jurassic Park, Life will find a way. Chinese bureaucrats can often be too cocky to see things logically.

Besides, the western countries were praising and copying China's lockdown policies (to their own detriment).
