You didn’t answer his question. You claim “Apple is a Chinese company.” He asked..

What’s your answer to that question? And clarify your definition… because on the face of it it seems to be it’s a Chinese company if it has elements of manufacturing or logistics support there, regardless of what else it has elsewhere in the world.
Does any of it matter? Companies have been viewing countries as juristictions to be navigated rather than an entity in and of itself. Apple are a worldwide company in every sense of the word. They are as much chinese as they are Indian, European and American. It would be better to call them a 'Terran' company for all the good it would do.

I’m tired of this ‘lack of innovation under Tim Apple’ trope. Mobile phones have plateaued, just like laptops. There is not much to be innovated. Flip phones are a new form factor that might catch on, or fade away. Samsung and the like experiment with new form factors in public, Apple in their secret labs, but they are clearly still in the experimental phase. The more mature a product, the harder it is to innovate.

As for losing market share: smart phones are good across the board and Apple does seem to price themselves out of the market. I personally wouldn’t mind them having to focus harder on high end features and dropping the mid-tier market but then again, I don’t run a trillion dollar company😅
Nail on head. Folding phones, whilst a cool bit of engineering are a little bit 'Windows Sideshow' for my tastes. The high end and the larger margins are the only place for real growth. $400 Android handsets are now such good value it hard for anyone to stand out.

come on what patriotic fervor? westerner are so errogant. Chinese are not dumb. They have to spend their hard earn money wisely as people usually pay full price for their phone instead on a plan. The ability to make satellite call and 5.5G are killer features and most people don't need the fastest chip as they only use their phone for TikTok and WeChat.

I worked with a company supplying software to (many) consumer phone companies and all the innovation was happening in China, and certainly not with Apple. Many of us remember the days when Apple did have some low level of innovation (e.g. click-wheel iPod, original Jony Ives iMac, original iPhone, App Store) but nowadays each iteration of products is just a minor tweak of both hardware and software. Even the Vision Pro looks like it's going to be a souped-up Quest at a silly price.

But we stay with Apple because they have locked us into their eco-system ... and continue to enjoy getting fleeced! That's how smart they are, they have us hooked.

as apple's supply base moves from china to vietnam and india (albeit on the backs of chinese companies extending operations into those countries) china's importance to apple as a sales market is going to decline.
the chinese government will have less and less reason to not put apple in the same category as other western companies which have felt more and more that china is just not worth it. apple has largely been able to escape chinese governmental wrath due to apple making so much of its products within china. vietnam and india change this paradigm.

apple made the strategic decision about 8 to 10 years ago that it would play along with china's rules and restrictions regarding iPhone hardware available within china, firmware on iPhones sold within china, and china app store available apps.

apple aided and abetted the selling out of chinese consumers' personal privacy. apple made a clear strategy of convincing itself that it would be somehow ethical to follow the legal restrictions that china has put on products that are available within china that work to make that country even more autocratic.

but doing this has pitted apple's USA/western europe oriented "principled face" vs. doing what was good for AAPL's best interest.
i think the "principled face", the "we care about your privacy" marketing, i think that side of apple somehow does match its real corporate self better than what it sold out to in china.
in another 8 to 10 years, we will see apple manufacturing at another cross roads. this time in india.
as independent and traditionally non-aligned as india is, it is a country that is seething in intolerance with a long long tradition that forces companies to fit its own model in order to do business within india.

the domestic china market meaning not so much to apple anymore will be good for apple. and not so good for AAPL.

Meanwhile, Huawei's comeback is predicted to continue, with the Chinese company continuing to develop and extend its own operating system, HarmonyOS, designed to rival iOS and Android.
And this is exact reason why US government banned most Huawei devices from networks. And if anyone tries to bring them into US, expect long interrogation at Customs and Border checkpoint before they let you go.

As long as Huawei is associated the PRC government, US government will do whatever it takes to make sure the phone itself is ultimately banned from being used or even brought to US, and encourage other nations to do the same. It’s spying waiting to happen.

If China bans iPhones or Google phones outright, Biden or some future administration will retaliate in kind by banning Huawei phones as well.

I don’t think it is the customer’s job to come up with ideas for innovation. Just because you cannot come up with new ideas doesn’t mean that under different leadership the iPhone couldn’t be light years ahead in innovation.

For years, under Cook, Apple products needed to be just good enough, nothing more. Lack of innovation and barely noticeable changes in both hardware and software over the years were left up to Marketing to amplify and spin. This is the result of Cook’s priorities and they’re finally starting to bite. Frankly, I’m surprised it took this long, but the competition hasn’t been compelling either.

I expect iPhone sales to decline in Europe as well due to massive price hikes and non-dependency on iMessage.
Massive price rises would be due to exchange rate which even Apple doesnt control... :)

I’m talking declining sales due to price hikes. The fact that the iPhone 15 Pro starts at €1200 and goes up to €2000 due to “inflation” is of zero concern to the customer. Apple is ultimately responsible for the final price and customers respond accordingly.

I don't know if Huawei's sudden rise in popularity is because of some kind of patriotic fervor, OR it's more that their hardware is genuinely good and getting better, while Apple's latest smartphone hardware advances boil down to "we switched from stainless steel to titanium, man doesn't that titanium feel so premium? 🤪"

I know it will be limited to china, but a 3rd OS option will be good for competition. I hope it's successful
For the same reason, while I never owned a Palm device, I wish for Palm OS to return as an alternative to iOS and Android.

There will be no alternative mobile OS if it cant launch with all the regular social media, banking, games, etc. apps people expect to use. Thats one of the main reason why Palm OS and Windows Mobile failed.

‘If only Steve was still alive…’.
Impress me with a true and significant smartphone innovation by another company. And no flip phones please…

Not gonna lie, I am sort of happy about this decline and I am saying this as an idiot that gave into buying an iPhone 15 Plus myself (my iPhone 12 Pro Max is still doing great and I honestly hardly notice a difference besides the battery obviously being much better).

Time for either a price drop an / or more innovations besides just further camera improvements
They’ll make up the revenue with the sales of the oled iPad pros.
