The iPhones have ALWAYS been too small for accurate image recognition. So much detail is missed by people I deal with using iPhones, because the screen is tiny. A 5" iPhone is a smart move for professionals, but small and weak hands might find it a hassle to hold or carry...

How insane is this society where a 5" iPhone or a 2lb. tablet make people squeal with pain and dislike?? That's worse than going through Donner Pass for modern people.

But why iPhone 5S or 6 ?????

The only doubt in all of this is why would one be the iPhone 5S and the other be the iPhone 6 ?

I have no qualms about Apple offering different sized device for its consumers.

It if be a 4" or 5" whatever...

But why would one be designated what one would perceive as 'better' and 'new generation' numbering based solely on size alone.

If both the 4" and 5" iPhones have same specs other than obvious size / form factor - other than size why should one be a '6' and the other a 'S' ?

Surely it would make more sense to have an 4" iPhone 6 and a 5" iPhone 6 with maybe [L] or [XL] suffixed to the larger device to designate the increased size.

If an iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 came out, then what happens next year ? Does the iPhone 6S have to be 5" but with more speed and then the iPhone 7 be 5.5-6" ...

It just doesn't make sense to set a precedent calling one a generation leap over the other based solely on size.

i would rather they sort out there aspect ratio make it 1080p even if it does make the phone slightly wider.

If they release a 5" iPhone as the top of the range model, it'll be the only iPhone since the minute the first one came out I wouldn't buy.

Can't understand why people are obsessed with big screens on a phone…its a ****ing phone!!

To all those saying they would stick with the 4", .........stop fooling yourself.

This is a phone:

My iPhone is a powerful hand-held computer. I would love a larger screen.

Cause it's not a phone! It's a device that you can use to make cellular calls, amongst many other things.

If you don't want a 5" device, then don't buy one. Choice is good when it's not merely present for the sake of having choice. Choice is good when one size does not fit all.

A 4" device can be better than a 5".
A 5" device can be better than a 4".

Apple wants to make what's best, and what's best can differ among people! Apple though that one handed use was best, period. But it turns out they were mistaken.

It's not a shame to bring out two different iPhones, it makes a lot of sense. Personally, I feel Apple will start killing Samsung, LG and HTC once they bring out a 5" device. It's the perfect move.

I like the way an "iPhone 6" has been seen at an Apple supplier (so probably not in America/Canada) with a Rogers phone signal, loads of Apps from the app store and the language set to English.

I'm not saying they wouldn't test such things, but seeing as its not even supposed to be the next phone in the line up, it seems quite advanced in testing especially with Canadian phone signal outside of Canada.

I'm sorry, but that is stupid. Just look at OSX, it has been around longer than iOS and looks very similar in its current state than its initial release. Look at OS 9, it looks nearly the same as OS 7 or even earlier. Most users complain when things change (even if they get better, look at the ribbon UI for Microsoft) and the reason they do that is because they have to relearn how to do everything. Apple is one of the rare companies that seriously puts a lot of thought and energy into every aspect of their products. When they make something, you know it will be insanely great.
What exactly are you bored with? An operating system that rarely crashes and rarely lags? You are threatening no one in lying how you'll be jumping ship because the beautiful and consistent UI makes you bored?

I for one embrace new ideas, I was wrong in my doubts of the 4" screen, I thought 3.5" was perfect. It isn't. If anyone can do a 5" device well, you know it will have an apple on it (not that Samsungs notes aren't great, they're just not as good as they could be).
I'm over the moon with my iPhone 5, the jailbreak tweaks keep me happy for the little things that I want different. But I haven't really touched changing the look, because it already is very nice. I'm hoping to keep this phone for ages, and sure as hell won't be swapping it for a lesser device because rounded squares are lame. Lol.

It's very much a personal thing I guess, though I wouldn't call it stupid. I have my phone on me nearly 24 hours a day.. It is an extension of myself. I am not arguing that the UI isn't good or that iOS is bad... It's just stale. It has looked nearly exactly the same since 2007. I want themes, I want beautiful lock screens, maybe even a real widget. I don't know... I have jail broken on several occasions to achieve similar things, but the process is never as fluid as I'd like. I may wait to see how Ive changes iOS...I have always gotten an iPhone because I really believe it has been the best product out there.. I still believe that, but even the WOZ seems a little bored with it (see his latest comments on apple "falling behind")

Total nonsense. Apple needs and has needed a range of iPhones since the first iPhine came out. This is not a one size fits all world.

I wonder why the ability to down vote is missing from my iPad. Frankly the idiocy expepressed here needs to be revealed to you and the rest of the one size fits all crowd. Apples market share could easily be double what it is today if they had embraced the fact that people have different needs.

Apple has been doomed since the time it started following market trends, not setting them, and even worse, following Samsung. Oblivion is all they deserve.

OK, here is the thing. I have always thought of those very large phones as crazy. Who would want to talk with that thing all day. But I've been looking at it wrong. I have an iPhone 5. But talking is the least of what I do on that phone. So I have decided that a large screen may be better for me because of what I use the phone for... almost everything but talking.

Actually, if the iPad mini would have talk capability, I'd probably get that. But that's not going to happen anytime soon. Unless Samsung releases an 8" phone, the iPad mini will simply be a tablet.

If you are happy I don't see any problem at all. The problem I have is with people that dismiss the idea that Apple needs an array of iPhone models due to some sort of one size fits all mentality. That sucks! There are legitimate reasons for people to want a bigger but pocketable iPhone model. To dismiss these needs out of hand is callous and not very constructive.

Am I the only person who's content with 1 version of the iPhone every year? The iPhone 5 is exactly what I want. That's just what we need, more "Oh hey they made a small iPad and a big iPhone last year isn't it the same thing. We'll call this 5" phone the iPad mini mini."

5 inch phones are Samsung's domain. Entering it means following in Samsung's footsteps. Especially if the iphone 5is just the same phone but with a larger screen, that will be gross.

And is there a reason that 5" phones can't become Apple's "domain"?

The most confusing thing if this ends up being true is why release a 5S and a 6.....why not just skip a 5S and go to the 6?

Same for me. I rarely use my iPhone for talking... only quick phone calls every once in a while.

But when I do have to take a phone call for an extended period of time... I use a headset.

What is the difference between that and 2 iMac screen sizes or 4 iPod models or Apple laptops in 3 screen sizes and untold configurations? Only in the old Soviet Union were consumers satisfied with the one size fits all model. (Of course they had a proverbial gun to their head requiring them to say that).

Why so bitter about the possibility of greater consumer choice? Great you love the iPhone 5. Me too. But if other, different models, can grow the brand or stop defections why wouldn't Apple consider it?

Also, yes, the one model per year concept doesn't work when there is vigorous competition as there now is. The iPhone gets stale much quicker now than when it was the only game in town w/ nothing much to compare it too. It's part of the reason Samsung has been so easily catching up. Classic Tortoise and the Hare tale.

Gee, I was thinking of getting an iPad Mini (when it comes out with Retina Display), but a 5 inch iPhone may change my mind.
