The fatal flaw of this thread is that the OP didn't specify what types of chips are offered at the party . If it's just ho-hum Lays chips, then ho-hum pretzels are better. But offer some PopChips or any other modern variant, and now we're talking. Even tortilla chips with a half-decent dip.

But at this party are we only allowed to have one or the other? Because every party I've been to it's not an exclusive choice :p.

Logically: pretzels

Pretzels.

Rationale:
  • most UK chip shops no longer know how to properly fry chips (hint: I want them to look, taste and smell fried, not limp bleached white lumps)
  • I'm too lazy to read the topic to tell whether the poll uses an americanisation
  • I'm a fat little piggy.

… most UK chip shops no longer know how to properly fry chips …

6/10 – only vaguely brown; acceptable.

7/10triple fried, whatever that means. Marked down from 8/10 because although they appear crispy at a glance, the reviewer describes them as 'not quite crispy enough' and I believe that on close inspection, that quality is visible in part of the two-thirds of the chip emerging from the bag at bottom right.

7/10 – a markdown of 0.5 for the excessively hard appearance of the fifth chip on the bottom row. And oven baking is probably not practical when people want them in a hurry at a party.

8/10 – for a while this was marked down to 7/10 for presentation in a teacup. However if my vote is to be swayed from pretzels, I must be fair and focus on the food alone; these deserve an 8.

9/10 for what's attached. Found thanks to Google but I can't bear to link to the publication in which I found it.

Initially I loved all three flavours; and I loved the colours deposited on my fingertips.

I urge readers to avoid the temptation to snack to excess on the hotter varieties. After some time I realised that the not-quite-as-satisfying effect on the taste buds, of those two varieties, had reduced my craving for the truly scrumptious honey, mustard and onion. (I should add: the onion is by no means overwhelming.)

Second only to catnip, my cats love them. I don't choose to include snacks in their diet, but if a high kitchen cupboard is left open, they're in there like a shot for a mouthful.

… fancy crackers …

LizKat, after your return from the kitchen, please consider sharing with us your definition of 'fancy' in the context of crackers. Thank you.

Personally I can throughly enjoy the fanciness of a Jacob's cream cracker if combined with the right cheese (or if the cracker is presented alongside a particularly repellent bowl of crisps).
