Yes, the 3g was released in July of 2008 and 3gs released in July of 2009

Whereas I don’t necessarily think there will be a September/pre-Xmas launch of a new iPad, the fact that there will likely be one a few months after xmas does give me pause…my wife has fallen in love with my iPad 2 (my first iPad), and whereas I can’t quite justify buying her one right now, making it a xmas gift is a definite possibility…but when the time comes next December to buy one, I am I going to be comfortable doing so, knowing a new model is right around the corner so to speak? Do I get her a iPad2 and then sell my ipad2 later in order to upgrade to ipad3 OR do I just wait a bit, give my ipad2 to her and upgrade outright to a ipad3? Am I even going to want to upgrade to the iPad3?

So, I guess I do agree with the OP, for me anyway, an iPad 2 for Xmas will be a tough decision…
