If Chrome was the last application you have that was 32-bit (as others have said - most applications swapped to 64-bit ~5 years ago), then it was the last reason your computer was loading 32-bit libraries into memory. Now that Chrome is 64-bit (and all the rest of your applications are, too), your computer no longer needs to load 32-bit libraries, just 64-bit libraries, which should result in a smaller memory footprint overall.

Is the difference very much? I've never run 100% 64-bit programs on my computer. There's always at least one little process that's 32-bit. QTKitServer for Safari, whatever that is, is 32-bit, and it's built in.

I don't want to give my personal data to BigG, but alas... welcome 64 bits! :)

great!
not home at the moment, but i think dropbox is still 32bit..

tried to switch to safari, but it doesnt show favicons on the tabs. which is very important to me to find the right tab more quickly. and i also use other devices and need the sync.

Safari is bad though. Looks good, but still one of the slower browsers. And huge lack of extensions for people who like that. And Adblock is bad on Safari because of API restrictions (can't block a lot of pre-roll type ads).

I've got plenty of Safari extensions, pretty much everything I could ask for. Some of them aren't available for Chrome. NinjaKit allows you to use Greasemonkey scripts, adding a lot more extension support. However, AdBlock for Safari is lacking (which is not needed anyway because of Click2Flash). Safari is also definitely the fastest browser I've tried, and Firefox 28 comes in second place.

Also, I want to be as far away from even indirectly touching Google+ as possible.

YAAY FINALLY
It's so ironic... Chrome is the pioneer in everything else... but not architecture. It's been lagging so far behind! Why did they stick with 32 bit for so long?! The biggest problem with that is that Java didn't work in Chrome

Why...? You still play RuneScape?

They were coding 32 bit apps in 2014?! Can't believe a product so backwards existed! Guess Google sucks at writing software. Good thing this isn't one of their flagship products. Oh wait...

It's crazy. Microsoft still launches 32 bit version of Windows (I've read somewhere that Windows 10 will also have 32 bit version). Do they really expect people with computers equipped with 32 bit CPUs, to keep their old hardware but still upgrade to the latest OS and keep being locked in using only 32 bit applications ? It just doesn't make sense.

Safari is terribly laggy in Yosemite when I'm running a graphically intensive application in a window and switching between the two. Chrome is smooth so I've been forced to switch for now until apple fix things.

1Password works for me on Chrome 39. Come to think of it, Chrome is the only browser that does not log me out of Last Pass after closing the browser.

You might be using Lastpass's "binary plugin", it preserves the login state outside of the browser context, allowing you to login lastpass from one browser and continue without login on other browser.

Still kills battery - running for 5 minutes and down 5% with chrome taking "significant energy" according to battery icon.

Too little, too late. Chrome sucks, at least on the Mac. I find Firefox faster, nicer, and it uses less memory.

Sunspider 1.0.2, lower-->better
FIREFOX - ca 130-150ms
NEW CHROME 64bit - ca 220ms!!!!
OLD CHROME 32bit - ca 160-170ms

Safari is great and all, but does no good when people use a mac AND Windows PC. If they had a valid Safari for windows that was continually updated, that would be a different story. At least with chrome, you can sync bookmarks/profiles over different devices AND platforms

That's the main reason I use Chrome, despite it being a battery hog on OS X. That and having an adblocker that actually works worth a rat's behind.

still not automatically getting this update. i guess they are not ready to get it to the masses
