I don't care how good Chrome is or how fast it is. I am sticking to Brave. I know it is still Chromium based, so I can take advantage of that speed without it being actual Chrome.

The browser (chrome, not Chrome) layer is equally important to how well the underlying rendering engine works.

I avoid using Chrome. But sometimes on occasion I'll need to use it because Safari straight up won't function. And then I notice that Chrome does in fact feel quite a lot faster. I often hit blocks in Safari where a "submit" button literally won't click, things generally slogging down to be barely functioning. Anyone else experience this?

... (Chromebooks) are all running older Intel CPU's and normally slower storage also. ...
Very true. And to be fair to Google: that just gives them that much more incentive to optimize their browser code... so that it still performs at least adequately on their Chromebook platforms.

I don't recall the last time I thought my browser was "slow".... any of them. That's about true for lots of things.
I find safari noticeably slower than edge and brave on my iPad. Add in the fact that it's terrible at ad blocking. Using the internet without ad block is a truly horrible experience now. You are completely bombarded with garbage.

I know the sentiment towards chrome in this forum but it is a very good browser and has gotten good in optimization . It feels much better to use compared to safari imo.
I have no idea how optimized Chrome is. It might be much faster and "better to use" than any other browser, and I'd still not use it. As you can read in many posts, the sentiment towards Chrome is based in something else.

Wipr2 does an excellent job at ad blocking in Safari. Haven’t even thought about ads in ages. Not sure what you’re going on about.

Im going on about the amount of ads while using safari. Not sure what you are going on about either. I don't have to install any extra things to block ads in brave OR Edge on my iPad. I guess I do for safari. which I wont.

Oh I see. You made it sound as if Safari was incapable of blocking ads. That’s why I was confused.

Yes, some web developers use stuff that doesn't function well or even at all on some or all other browsers. I like to assume that it is incompetence on the part of those developers. But I fear that it is deliberate.

Usually to achieve speed you have to cut corners and skip certain security thresholds. It’s expected that software that is more secure than others may be a little slower but will pay dividends in the long run. 🤔

With all those speed improvements from browsers since years ... at the end of my life I will have saved 10mn.
Go buy a f...ing covfefe at Starbucks and look at those 10mn leaving you while you wait in line just to be called "Jizztolast" when you said your name was "Nicholas" 😡

I don't use Chrome at all. Safari for me, with Edge as a backup for when Safari won't work on a site, but happy to hear about this nonetheless. Lots of people use Chrome, so having it available & continuously developed on the Mac, including pushing other browsers to get better, is a win in my book.

Good for Google but this makes me mad.

Apple loves to say how their control of the hardware, OS and their particular software app (Safari in this case) are "the best". Safari should be the best ... best in performance, best in security, best in stability, best in compatibility ... best in all categories.
Competition nipping at their heels will keep them sharp.
