I'm debating if I should remain using safari or chrome. any pointers to a new mac user? :D

The best way is simply to use both and see which one you like the best. You'll probably gravitate toward one over the other without even thinking about it. It's a subjective thing. They're both quite good--Just different.

Thank you =]

No but seriously, browse and this site and it will answer so many questions. can't send you a PM or I would have :D I have only been a MBP user for about 6 months and will never go back.

and... chrome. ftw. I started using safari after I read this post and realized why I never used it in the first place. Spell check is the only good thing in my opinion. for a secondary, it's just fine. IMHO of course. that's all it is anyways.

How do I set up to where you can send me a pm? haha. I am liking my macbook pro so far :)

I like Safari simply for how well the multi-touch gestures are utilized. Two finger swipe to the right to go back a page, two finger swipe to the left to go forward.

Chrome and Firefox utilize this functionality as well, but it just seems clunkier.

my 2¢'s

I am assuming you are connecting to the internet via wi-fi? Have you tried bypassing the router and connecting your computer directly to the (Cable? DSL?) modem to see if you still have issues?
You are right. I need to try that when I get home. If that solve the issues then what's the problem? What setting do I need to do in order to use wifi without these issue?

I Use FireFox For Mac and can not be happyer:) Safari and Firefox Are faster in real world use then Chrome. a month ago i tryed all 3 on a 2.4GHz Core i3 Windows 7 Laptop With 4GB Ram And my 2008 2.4GHz Macbook With 3GB Ram and OS X 10.5.8. And chrome felt the slowest on the pc and mac not only did it fell slow but i benchmark it and it was slower then the other 2.

Here are the fastest browsers by benchmark in order (i for got the name of the program that i used to do it one was a web based test and the other was a program that i installed)

1.Safari
2.FireFox
3.Google Chrome

you will have to do it in your User CP, under settings and options, edit options, private messaging, check enable private messaging.

sorry for off topic posts

If that solves the problem then the issue(s) is a router setting. First, have you made any recent changes to your router settings? Second, you can reset your router to default values (see manufacturers website for directions).

I use both Safari and Chrome. They are both quite good with each having their pros and cons. Therefore it's largely a personal choice.

Personally I vastly prefer Chrome for it's great extensions, fast performance, and the fact it never ever crashes.

Worst case a tab will crash, yet leave the rest of them unaffected. That is one of the best features.

Finally I like the frequent, small updates that are automatically pushed out to keep the browser improved and up to date.

If I was forced to choose one, it would be Chrome hands down, no hesitation.

This whole talk about speed is nonsense.
The only really decent speed tests of modern browsers there are is this one
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/macbook-air-chrome-16-firefox-9-benchmark,3108.html
Safari wins on OSX.
Yet still in all real world tests they are all so close that the speed really doesn't matter.
Usability matters and that is a bit of a subjective thing.
Opera is by far the best in that category. It is just too unstable in the current OSX version. Something is wrong in 11.5-11.61.
FF, Chrome are second depending on Addons a lot though and Addon quality
Safari even with Addons is quite bad. The Addons are often much worse quality than FFs, the defaults are just bad.
IE well that one is still last but getting better.

Everytime I have tried to use safari it hangs on me at least once a day. Every time I go back to Chrome I wonder why I even tried Safari. Chrome is the safer browser too. As much as I dislike android and all that jazz I have to side with Google on this one. Apple should stick to design not technicality lol

most of the browser benchmarks between chrome and safari were done on windows, in which case chrome wins hands down. On MacOS, Safari is usually faster than chrome. Also, do you really trust google with EVERYTHING?

See my blog post regarding this:
http://magicMac.blogspot.com/2011/09/so-which-really-is-fastest-browser-on.html

It's a bit out of date but if anything safari will be faster now - since 5.1 had a few bugs when first released.

My only gripe with safari is if you swipe to go back or forwards it insists on re-downloading and re-rendering the page - making it feel slower. But things like reader mode, reading list and easily searchable bookmarks just outweigh it for me personally :)

Firefox is my alternative browser which means I have one WebKit browser and one Gecko browser.

I agree completely. I wanted to love safari because it was you know built into the OS but I just always go back to chrome. The things I know I like more about chrome would be more stable and vimeo videos in html5 are slow (safari) whereas the chrome flash is nice and fast.

Quick question.
I tried looking online for a true full screen mode, like Chrome that hides the address bar and everything up top, until you put your mouse cursor up there.
All I found was old articles before it had the option for full screen, but not the type I want.

I would love to get rid of Chrome completely and use Safari, to save up some space(not much, 200mb+).
What I like about Safari is the smooth zooming and the swiping to a previous/next page is better. Its not just an arrow, but you can actually see the previous/next page while doing it.
I just downloaded an omnibar for it, so thats not a problem anymore.

I can hide the toolbar, but it doesn't come back when I put my cursor at the top of the screen, and it still shows the tabs.

So my real question, is there an extension or option I'm not seeing to have true full screen like in Chrome?
It does make a difference for me as I use a 13" screen.

Are me and my girlfriend the only two people on OSX who have video/stream problems on chrome?

I always get "blank boxes" when I try and open pages with videos on them.... Same deal for my girlfriend.... wtf?

maybe it is one of your extensions? Flash blocking extension maybe?
