im talking my dad into getting a tv from them. does anyone know what a ipod touch goes for right now?????? (and a laptop, speakers, blu-ray player... the list goes on and on! :D). i will miss cc though (and their crazy rebate amounts!:p)

Well not all the "deals" were bad. I ended up buying a TV with a list of $1099 for $746. It was already on sale(the sale was ending today) so I got 10% off the already reduced price.

You just gotta find the teen workers who are gamers...the WoWers who have custom built their towers so they don't lag in battles.:p

yep!
I'm probably going to get something from they today.
I'll report back about the Prices.

Frys is great but all my shopping goes to amazon. 7-9 years ago man I would always hit up Frys cause they had a nice return policy. I bought the House of the Dead game with the 2 guns for Dreamcast, played it for a couple of weeks and Frys took it back with no restocking fee!! SWEET!!

And this is why the retailers put more stringent return policies, because of abuses just like this that didn't even buy customer loyalty. Thanks for abusing the system.

- CarMax
- The failure of DivX (and the flood of cheap players afterward)
- Revitalizing Richmond, VA

I know "Thinking Different" rarely means "thinking positive," but you might want to try it sometime.

I live in the Richmond, VA area and have never considered or even heard anyone mention or attributing Circuit City with "Revitalizing Richmond, VA". But you live in California so you must know better than us.

Don't bother

The prices, even with the 10% "discounts", are terrible.

I walked out 15 minutes after I walked in, hands as empty as they were when I entered the store.

On the other hand, Office Depot is clearing out some USB 2.0 250GB 2.5" hard drives for $CHEAP! I picked two up, ripped the drives out, and upgraded my MacBook Pro and PS3!

In other news: Huge Electronics Sale at Circuit City!

In Orlando, I don't think that location was an issue compared to Best Buy. I think this city is way overbuilt, and there are too many locations of the same stores here. For instance, we have 5 major shopping malls/outlet malls that are about 10-15 minutes away from each other. (Millenia, Florida Mall, Festival Bay, Prime Outlets, Premium Outlets). Two of them are literally right across the street from each other. Furthermore, we have about 5-6 malls in the suburban areas, and I think some of those are hurting right now. One of reasons why the malls I named are in good shape (except for the half-empty Festival Bay) is because they are close to the tourist area. Most of these malls are accompanied by these specialty stores that all sell the same stuff.

If you see a Best Buy, you know that there's probably a Circuit City and now an H.H. Gregg a block away.

If you see a Linens N Things, you know there is a Bed, Bath, and Beyond right around the corner (and we all know who lost that war). What was the difference between those two stores? To me, the only difference was the name.

If you see a Ross, you know there's a TJ Maxx, Marshall's and/or Beall's Outlet close by.

I could go on and on.

CVS/Pharmacy and Walgreens are popping up everywhere like gas stations. (I'm sure one of them will probably go down in the next 5-10 years). And when you see a Walgreens, the CVS is not around the corner, it is right NEXT DOOR!

I am by no means a business person, so I may be clueless about the reasoning for the multiple locations of all the same stores. Building all of these locations worked well during the good-old days in 2003-2006, but now that people are spending less money (because they actually have to use cash now, you know, the money they actually make), the decision to overbuild and build right next to your main competitors are now starting to haunt those companies. How many Wal-Marts and Targets do we see right next to each other? I only know of 2.

I'm in Orlando too but even though there are a **** load of electronic stores in the area, Circuit City is/was by far the most unorganized. Me and a few friends had a running pool of when CC would be tanking. I'm ok with it and am not gonna miss this place. Circuit City hasn't been worth shopping in for the last 8-10 years.

It was interesting, during the week prior to the announcement and maybe back even a week or two I had checked out some of the camera prices, now I wasnt price shopping everything but I did notice that the Canon 40D with 28-135mm kit lens was already selling at ean earlier (original?) MSRP of $1299 when it was pretty much a $999 or lower item everywhere else as the 50D was introduced near that price level.

I have a giftcard to spend there but I am not necessarily expecting any great prices, just hope to buy something like an xbox360 game at a discount due to the card itself. Will look around to see if anything else if worth considering just in case.

They don't sell those. .Mac doesn't exist anymore.

But I bought one when CompUSA went under ($57) and it (the serial) worked fine when I renewed what is now the "mini-.Me" family pack.

I see by Google cached pages they have Apple care for Apple TV's and Mac Minis. Did CC sell iMacs?

so whats gonna happen with me becuase my family bought a T.V. from CC just 2 weeks ago and the deal was that we wouldn't have to pay a penny for 36 months with no interest added. Are we still going to have to pay, and if so when/how/to who?

You are still going to pay for the TV. You are paying the bank that gave you the loan (credit card). I have no idea who it is, maybe some one from CC can chime in on that.

Yes, they do sell them. I bought one last year but they didn't have it displayed in plain sight.

Yep, I grabbed the last one at the store I visited today. It was kept with the iPods. It was listed at $229. The guy that rang it up charged my $140. Not sure how that worked out, but seems like a pretty good deal.

But most other things were not that great.

What makes Best Buy so much better than Circuit City that one can survive and the other can barely make it even in a healthy economy? I just don't see a big difference. They're both big, they both sell a lot of electronics, and neither of them employ knowledgeable, helpful employees.

Who ever said Best Buy was doing well? 2009 will surely see more of the giants fall, we are just at the beginning of this with no end in sight.

Love or hate these big box stores this is America and you will all be singing a different tune when they are all gone! this recession has just begun and more are sure to follow!

No clearance sales at my Circuit City today. I wonder if this "sale" happened, and if so, how wide and far it went?

It was just another business day there and very few customers as usual as is the case with the whole mall. My guess is that "some" CC stores are going to start using special sale prices today, but not all stores. The company intends on wrapping up in March or so, therefore I don't know when the CC store closest to me will start those sale prices.

It would be nice to find out when this will happen where I live so I can buy stuff I may need.

I was also at Office Depot today and no clearance sale there either but their prices were the same or better.
