Ya'll love complaining on these forums, yet none of us would never switch away from iPhones & Macs.

Personally, I'm complaining because I don't want to switch, especially my hard-entrenched OSX workflows, but Apple isn't making it easier for me. By all accords, I'm what you'd call an Apple diehard, just not a koolaid drinker. I really, really wish their leadership treated Apple customers as more than sheep, and of course I'll lambast their products on a forum to the point of becoming tiresome until this hell of "gates" and "courage" and "dongles" freezes over. Case in point, the latest MacBook Pros are pure dumpster fire and MacOS hasn't been going anywhere for years, and it sucks.

Loyalty in a walled garden where your purchases don’t transfer to the competing platform is hard to measure

Play store purchases don’t transfer either. The thing about the walled garden is that the wall keeps you out as well. Why buy a mac if you use android, chrome, and everything you own is USB A? Why buy an iPhone if all your photos are backed up to google photos or are stored on an SD card?

People do but most come back, for example i brought a Surface Pro 6, but I’ll be coming back to a MacBook at some point.

Yup people are all talk or if they do switch they tend to switch back

What was wrong with the surface? I’m curious and love to hear different views then Apple users

Windows mainly, it’s not a great tablet i’d even go as far as to say it’s not even a good tablet. As a typing device it’s fine but it lacks the clean look and the refinement of MacOS or even IOS.

And the Windows App Store is just not good, I’ve used Netflix in tablet mode and it stutters, freezes with the words and audio being out of sync.

As 2in1 it’s suppose to be able to be a tablet and computer but after using the Surface Pro 6 I can see why Apple have not made a 2in1 device.

I don’t regret trying the Surface and I’ll either sell it or keep it around for Windows games but I do prefer Mac and iPad.

This is fine, i’ll remain on my Xs Max until the doors fall off sorta speak. I’m 100% fine with a new battery for $79 in three years. If anything fails it will happen during my AppleCare+ period. With my Apple ownership history things become old and too slow before they malfunction. If i’m wrong meh, i’ll Get another iPhone. My next phone will have a bitten fruit logo.

At the new pricing, only the most loyal Apple users are upgrading. It's called selection bias.

Not so fast. I just switched back to a Windows PC, from a mac, as my main PC for the first time since 2011. I only bought it due to it being on a doorbuster sale at Best Buy. For $539 it is a gaming mini desktop with a dedicated Radeon RX580 GPU, Ryzen 5 CPU, and both a 128GB NVMe boot drive and a 1TB spinner. The included 8GB RAM was easily extended to 16GB for $55. It boots in less than 10 seconds.

The thing actually drives an Oculus Rift, quite acceptably, and it is for Rift that I bought this PC. But after spending time with it, and the latest Windows 10, I realized I could very easily use this as my main PC.

That said I can't see myself going back to Android, for my phone.

That’s possible. Everyone on MacRumors says everything Apple does sucks.

It might be true but that doesn't mean we are not pissed or delaying purchases due to increased pricing. I went ahead and jumped to XS (from 2 year old 7+) but we have two SE's that need to be updated.

Oddly enough I don't complain that much here. When I do complain, I try not to make a rant out of it, but sometimes consumer frustration gets the better of me. But I'm in the process of switching over to a Pixel 3XL as my main phone. And it's not an act of petulance or frustration. There are just some little extras I'm enjoying on it for now. I refuse to burn any bridges because I fully embrace the possibility of doing the opposite at some time in the future.

I don't think Apple designers and engineers are sitting on their thumbs. We were told 2018 was the year of bug fixes and 2019 we'd get new goodies for the OS. My iPhone Xr will be waiting for them. I'm very excited about new iPad Mini rumors.

I did go for a Windows PC over a Mac desktop when the time came to make a choice. It was the most practical choice for my purposes.

While emotions are unavoidable when hard earned money is involved in these choices, I do think some people need to step away from identifying themselves as "Team Apple" or "Team Android". The competition between these companies makes them try harder and so blind loyalty to a brand is not in our best interests as consumers. Neither is blind hatred and anger, which I admit I do sometimes succumb to on a bad day, myself. That's only caused me to make stupid decisions that my wallet regrets! ;)

All of the options come with such a surprising array of benefits...and some of the most boneheaded, frustrating flaws imaginable. It's quite the eye opener to try a little bit of everything.

So did Android, which actually beat iOS by a sizeable margin, so whats the point of this article other than “more people bought one or the other of the two most popular platforms last year?”

because 9 out of 10 are too lazy or disinterested to try the other side. Nowadays both operating systems are fine. Not that much different. No real reason to go to choose the other one except curiosity and lower priced hardware.

Nine out of every ten iPhone users who upgrade their smartphone will stick with the iPhone, a recent survey suggests.

They didn't survey me. o_O

Agreed. I've intentionally kept everything I buy platform agnostic to make switching much easier.

I wonder what the results would be if they had included consumers outside of the US.

Exactly. Where I am I can upgrade to a new iPad or iPhone for only the cost of a high-end laptop.

I stayed loyal to iPhone and upgraded from X to XS Max,but if XR was the only new option I’d have definitely ditched iPhone.

...For me iPhones have become prohibitively expensive and with no choice I had jumped the iOS ship and never looked back...
Similar To the note 9 starting at $999, and other expensive android models.

We all make our choices.

It actually worries me that Apple has seen a decline in sales after releasing an iOS 12 that speeds up older devices. I doubt we will see this type of release ever again.
I think this is more the expected outcome and Apple expected this as well.

Of course iOS loyalty is at its highest. There is very little reason to stick with iOS apart from loyalty, everyone else has left.

Bravo. I truly could not agree more, particularly with the whole team thing. Use whatever is the best tool for you, and if possible, remain flexible.

Much higher levels of switching happens from android to iOS .

Well, I guess the only way to know this is to look at the worldwide ownership of iOS vs Android Phones, and see which platform has the most growth.

Interesting figure. Not sure if it's anything to SHOUT about though.

So, for every 10 iPhone users who upgrade, 1 will change over to Android.

So for every 100 people, 10 will change to Android.

For every 1000 people who upgrade, 100 will change to Android.

For every 10,000 people, 1000 will change over to Android.

Is this good then?

Yep, I think that is pretty good.
Plus, you got to compare that with the number of Android users who switch to iOS.
Another thing to remember is that not everyone who switches to the different operating system does it because it is unhappy with the current one. Sometimes people just like changes, I have switched back and forth Android/iOS a few times, simply because I wanted to experience some change, but form most parts been happily using iOS.

Well, I switched to Android 2 days after the announcement of the Xs/Xr in September and don't see myself returning to iOS. I've gained significantly more than what I've given up without even considering the significant price difference. Getting off of Macs is a different matter for me as this is where I actually do things… where the phone just tells me things.
