If those Apple snobs would just drop their standards, this kind of stuff would not happen. They need to get off this quality thing and just cut the price down as low as they can get it, just like everyone else.

At this rate, Apple will be banned from Walmart.

I'm not sure where this came from ,but it's a pretty stupid statement; one of if not the reason they are so popular is their exquisite choice in the best parts and devices. why would a company that worked so hard drop everything and start mass production compared to Dell to sell at Walmart.

lets see

Unannounced product that went into production last month in big enough volumes to effect company profits and is using a brand new chip.

I'd say about a 90% chance that's an Apple product.

Too late for iPad, too early for iPod. Portables have all been refreshed. New iMacs are a maybe. Apple HDTV maybe, would explain need for new audio chip.

My vote Apple iPod touch HD, Apple's 7 inch tablet! Hey Steve said 7 inch tablets made no sense but not 7 inch iPods.

White iPhone?
Unlikely.

The internal components of the white and black iPhone would be identical. The only parts that would be different would be the front and back plates. It would make zero sense from a component inventory management standpoint to stick a different audio processor in the white iPhone.

And you'll still buy cheap quality hardware all of the time from PC, Phone, MP3, and tablet manufacturers and never know the difference...there's got to be a great proverb out there to display the irony...

Thank you for proving my point haha. Who said I buy anything PC?

btw, Apple computers use INTEL and similar "hardware" unless I am mistaken...

please let this go this isn't happening!!!!

My friend works in Apple R&D and he's been pretty right with a lot of things so far.

I said I wouldn't be surprised if they pushed it back because it's too soon but he says they want to release it for Christmas. I still doubt it but the point is, they're gunning for that time frame.

Yep. Corning can't even say Apple is one of its customers, and it has the most visible component of all their iDevices:
Curious, I can't really see it at all. It's transparent.

Cirrus Logic has been a major player in the audio industry the last 10 years, and they have had serious issues many of those years. I can't believe nobody else has stepped up to take their place in some of this. You'd think Analog Devices or someone would want to step out of niche mode and make some money.

I remember when they made crap graphics chips and graphics cards back in the ISA 16 bit bus days on the Intel 386/486 platform.

Good to know they haven't improved any.

Actually, I'm fairly certain that is called h.u.m.o.r.

A new icon requirement for apps and now this?
I don't think it's an iPhone 5 it seems to be something new... It might be for universal apps Mac + iOS but it still seems to early for this...

Yep, must be the awesome new ix.Mac.MarketingName!

Can't wait to get one and find out what it does.

Maybe a version of the airport extreme with audio out?

I know many Mac converts asking why the should pay for an airport extreme for $180 and it doesn't have audio out but the $99 airport express does.

Explain that to a new convert.

How about a home iTunes server? Base station plus audio and video?

Many people have their base station next to their main HDTV.

Combo AppleTV and airport extreme? Less data thrown around?

I hope this means that Apple is forcing Cirrus to improve the quality of their audio codecs. I don't care much for my iPhone 4's pops, clicks, zipper noise, and hiss. These problems did not exist when Apple used Wolfson codecs, or at least the problems were not as pronounced.

In fairness, Apple's own hardware or software could contribute to these problems too.

What!? No galloping coconuts too?? :)

Cirrus? They're the ones that make the CS4206A (AB 39) integrated soundchip for the 2011 Macbook Pro! Maybe this has to do with the fact that the aforementioned chip doesn't seem to support Stereo Mix under Windows, like my 2008 iMac did with the realtek equivalent under Windows XP, perhaps? Both "Show Disabled Devices" and updating the drivers doesn't work for me like it does for others using different sound cards. Seems the most likely thing is that they don't have the feature enabled in their drivers to preserve the integrity of music copyrights, like what Dell did or worse yet just didn't include the hardware to do it.

Stereo Mix was a pretty standard feature that I'd need to get Camstudio to record sound from the speakers to make satisfactory game recordings. I suppose I could also just buy cables and splitters to go from my headphone jack to the mic jack, but that'd result in degraded sound quality and be rather sloppy as it'd requiring messy both cables as well as bulky external speakers. It seriously bites. =\

I suppose I could just buy FRAPS but that's 37 bucks where Camstudio was free... Hopefully since the MBP was released just a couple months ago in Feburary and is still listed as new on Apple's website, this rumor alludes to a fix of some sort, like maybe coming out with a fixed driver and paying the RIAA whatever fees are required under the home audio recording act or something. (I really need to brush up on that.)

They shouldn't. There are far cheaper routers available ($120 range for simultaneous dual band), many with more features than the Extreme. The Express does offer unique functionality that may make it worth the high price.
