CrunchGear pinpoints March 17th as the date for the release of next generation MacBook Pros alongside a price drop of the high end model, which currently runs $2799.

They also claim the overall design will remain the same but with the expected inclusion of multi-touch.

CrunchGear has had some rumor hits in the recent past, but their timeframes have not been accurate. Their date also conflicts with recent whispers that expected MacBook Pro updates in the next two weeks.

March 17th? I guess it will be green then with a glowing shamrock instead of an Apple on the lid? :p

This is way past my "MBP drop dead date" :(

Looks like Steve is losing at least $800 of my money (if I go with a MB instead of a Vaio, that is).

I might be in the market for an MBP about that time, but not much sooner, so March 17 is fine. I do think think we'll see an update sooner though. I wouldn't be shocked to see one tomorrow even.

This makes sense to me. There would be no good strategic reason to release the new MBPs at roughly the same time as their MBAs. Here's hoping the rumours of a price drop turn out to be true.

Probably not. If anything, Apple is probably waiting for Montevina platform to arrive before updating the MacBook Pros.

I dont care what happens until june, but when that time rolls around i hope the MBPs have a base of 256MB VRAM so there would be a small possibility of the MB, or at least the black MB, getting a 128MB graphics card.

I would absolutuly love that.

My ibook is on its last legs.

nice?

this sounds nice. I wouldn't mind waiting till mid-march for an update if it was a reeeeal update with a newer design to match. I would also tolerate waiting much more if I new this was fo' real. I hope they don't copy the MBA tapered design-it would make it so much harder to carry with 1 hand. I also don't like the MBA's keyboard of black on silver...its a little too freckly for me.

why would you be pleased? I don't think anyone would want to wait that long except you then.

This Rumor is SO WRONG. March 17th, not a chance, its too close to Motevina release. This guy was talking about getting drunk and hung over on his B-day.. I bet he was drunk and hung over when he was WRITING THIS ARTICLE.

Doesn't seem like that long a wait to me, i guess. Maybe my perspective is just warped after the past eleventy-hundred month wait for new Mac Pros. :)

ah true, I see what your getting at haha.

to the rest of you, March 17th seems way too long seriously, people are saying that their Apple store is running out of Macbook Pro stocks. I went into two Apple stores today and they didn't even have any left. I asked them when they would get more stock, both stores said "we can't say".

:apple: mmmm...Apple

Almost two months for no overhaul?
If that happens, I'll wait for Montevina.
I do think this report is wrong though

The current machines are great. Why would you change your mind over such a small revamp to the current line (if it turns out as anticipated)?

macbook pro is for people who need a good computer, macbook air is for people who need to show off... they do not, nor ever will compete with one another.
