The current machines are great. Why would you change your mind over such a small revamp to the current line (if it turns out as anticipated)?

I know, but I was told that the standard or minimum version will start at 2.4ghz as opposed to the current 2.2ghz, and I hear there may be an increase in hard drive space. I guess it benefits a lot for the people who are buying the lowest Macbook pro.

hahaaa

Let's make it March 18th then. That's a Tuesday, and last but not least it's my birthday. : )

what I can recommend:
Darjeeling Unlimited

that's a good anti-thesis to the hip Apple ads, dissing PC-users - some kind of ridiculous ********

That my friends is a classic example of why MR doesn't run Apple,Inc.:)

On topic though. We will see new MBP's around Feb. 5th or Feb.12th.

macbook pro is for people who need a good computer, macbook air is for people who need to show off... they do not, nor ever will compete with one another.

Well I beg to differ. By releasing two products at once it would force a greater number of people to hesitate before buying the MBA. As for whether the two products would compete, I also think they will. As a casual observer of this website I've already seen a few people asking "Should I buy a MBP or a MBA?". This is evidence of competition for part of the market. Of course, I suppose Apple won't really care as long as you buy one of their products, but I think it's not exactly true both products won't compete for at least some of the same market.

Finally, you don't think people purchasing the MBP want to show off at all? Although I suppose that question is immaterial in general, I found your statement a little much to be able to resist passing comment on.

I'm not saying they couldn't release both at the same time, I'm just saying it wouldn't make a whole lot of strategic sense (particularly from a marketing standpoint) to release them both close to one another.

Source? lol. I've noticed following MacRumors you get a lot of people just shooting around "facts" that come from seemingly nowhere.

I thought tomorrow is the update?

CrunchGear pinpoints March 17th as the date for the release of next generation MacBook Pros alongside a price drop of the high end model, which currently runs $2799.

They also claim the overall design will remain the same but with the expected inclusion of multi-touch.

CrunchGear has had some rumor hits in the recent past, but their timeframes have not been accurate. Their date also conflicts with recent whispers that expected MacBook Pro updates in the next two weeks.

Why would Apple worry about that? They are going to make money anyway from selling MBP or MBA.

Ok, from what I read. Page 2 News is either unverified or not as likely to be true based source, etc. So that is why the dates for this rumor and the other rumor are on page 2.

I'd say they'd want to try and whip up interest in the MBA initially and try and get as many early sales as possible.

I understand your point on them making money either way, but it'd make far more sense to try and establish one brand and then release the other in a month or two when the hype has died down. Releasing them both at the same time lessens the impact of the release of each product and they would both need to share the limelight.

I would personally be saddened if March were the case. But I'm in no rush to purchase one. (deep dark voice) Be it tomorrow or March the Macbook Pro will be mine...(hysterical laughter) muhahahhahhaha. :D

I'd like to see a later revision (as in, March) that takes cues from the new aesthetic design of the MBA. And no, I don't mean they should make it thinner or drop connectivity. The MBA departs from the relatively square MBP aesthetic, with generally smoother lines and a slightly rounder look overall. Also, as far as I know, the MBA drops the gray plastic rim that tends to give the MBP's an unevenness at the edges. I'd also like to see the end of the mechanical latch, which seems outdated, and the inclusion of the new chiclet style keyboard in gray.

VERY GOOD! How long did it take you to figure that out?

I was responding to post #32 that said I though it came out tomorrow. Didn't ask for your stupid comments when others on here are trying to inform or help members.

The current machines are overpriced compared to the competition and Apple's own MBs. I know the price gap between PC laptops and the MBPs will come down when both sport the new processors, but right now the difference is just too big. Similarly, the low-end MBP is over $800 more expensive than a mid-range MB, which is too much of a difference for what you're getting. Coupled with the fact that I can't easily change out the hard drive in the current MBP (which forces me to buy it at a premium from Apple, and to thus have to pay tax on the whole purchase, whereas I could buy any stock machine in NH where there is no sales tax), the current MBP is not a good deal for me. And no need to educate me about pros and cons of MBP vs. MB vs. Sony/Dell. I've considered them all already.

your an idiot, Applause dumb ass. What else do you think I was trying to say? What are you, an English teacher? Its the internet nerdy.

It looks like you're new-ish around here. Your harsh words aren't warranted, and personal attacks can get you banned.

I'm not an English professor, nor the word police. I only took notice because you were picking on someone who didn't deserve it. They had done nothing against you. Most of the MacRumors community would appreciate it if you didn't return with this attitude. Don't attack people for their lack of knowledge.

lol i'm sorry guys, i'm just trying to have a little fun here

Like a middle-school bully, backing down and acting cool when faced with numbers. Cheep. Give the person you first attacked a personal apology.

why would you be pleased? I don't think anyone would want to wait that long except you then.

This Rumor is SO WRONG. March 17th, not a chance, its too close to Motevina release. This guy was talking about getting drunk and hung over on his B-day.. I bet he was drunk and hung over when he was WRITING THIS ARTICLE.

No, I bet he was snorting coke off a knife edge when he wrote that article!
