Jeez, another Apple device with the iPhone 4-like flat rectangular design. How boring! Why is Apple so obssesed with this form factor?

New iPod touch but no leaks

I am sure that the iPod touch will be refreshed but the problem is the minuscule leaks there are for it, wherease for the iPhone 5 there are hundreds !

Blame the content providers!

Those evil television producers and movie directors who end up using industry standard aspect ratios like 4:3, 16:9, and CinemaScope!

They're the ones who are locking us into rectangular media consumption devices! I'm waiting for egg-shaped movies and trapezoid NBA broadcasts!

Actually, let's place the ultimate blame on Euclid! His idea of geometry has stifled innovation for millennia. Our television sets should be amorphous blogs, we should be living in houses that look like melted marshmallows.

Occupy Euclidean geometry!

:) :p :D

My guess is that the "mystery hole" is for the flash, while the larger camera hole accommodates for a better camera and microphone. Adding flash means that hopefully they have also improved the camera from the 0.7MP piece of garbage found on the 4th gen iPod touch.

This "mystery hole" probably isn't a speaker as putting it on a table will muffle the sound when the iPod is face up. Also the gap at the bottom for the dock connector etc. is still roughly the same size meaning that the headphone jack and possibly larger speaker grill still live at the bottom of the iPod.

However, if the speaker grill isn't larger, and stays roughly the same size, then this possibly means that the dock connector may not have shrunk to the supposed 8 pin (9 pin including the casing) dock connector. Maybe the iPhone gets a new dock connector and the iPod touch doesn't? (probably not)

Also the case is longer than 4th gen cases, meaning that the iPod is longer (for a longer 4 inch screen). If this case is real, this will further prove the lengthening of the screen on both the iPod touch and iPhone.

I just hope Apple puts a liquid-metal battery in it so the next iPod Touch doesn't die in 4 hours.

I was involved with a mystery hole once. I don't think they'd do too well in consumer electronics.

wild guess;

what if the the touch has dual speakers like the iPhone and rumored iPad air, the back hole would therefor would be for the new 8 pin dock connector.

I mean a speaker in the back is silly, flip it right side up and you muffle the sound.

money talks

It would be nice if they put a flash on the opposite side from the camera. The further away it is from the lens the more natural the image looks and the less red-eye you'll have to deal with (I know you can edit this out in the software, but it's better not to have to deal with it in the first place)

The misery hole is For a speaker. If the unit is thin, the speaker moving to the back makes sense, keep the tapered design while retaining the speaker. With a tapered design you speaker has to be farther back. To keep a large speaker in the device, you lay it down flat. Here is a picture

The arrows are showing which way the sound exits the device

Mastery hole solved.

But the harder your flash angle is, you will get more shadows.

personally i would love if they would give the camera a mini ring light, that would get you great lighting in either portrait or landscape

If the iPod touch is mainly used for games, then the holes may be for dual speakers for landscape gameplay o 3D camera

Well lets see now...Possibly because this form factor made them the most successful tech company in the world. Maybe you would suggest, a triangular shape, maybe a hexagon? Please...
