Clean iPhone screen

You screen is easily getting fingerprint because it destroyed the protect layer
 
Most people are just cleaning the screen protector anyway. 😀

Alcohol is just fine as it's used for delicate eyeglasses with more expensive coatings than an iPhone. 😎

While its safe to use it will deteriorate the oleo-phobic coating over time.
 
Windex or anything like that.

I also use a glass screen protector, so I don't really care about the oleophobic coating.
 
I have a screen protector on anyway, so have no fears about scratching off my coating...
However, coating or not, my phone gets a weekly de-germing session 🙂
I use Dettox anti-bacterial spray and I apply this to a cloth before wiping the phone, apparently it kills 99% of all germs.
 
The only reason why Apple says what is says below is because of the potential of liquids getting into the phone from accidental spillage. All would wreak havoc if spilled into the vents. You can use alcohol wipes from Zweiss to clean the screen and it will not remove the coating. I use them on my eyeglasses all the time, and it does not damage the coating on the glasses or my iphone.

"Don't use window cleaners, household cleaners, aerosol sprays, solvents, alcohol, ammonia, or abrasives to clean iPhone. The front glass surfaces have an oleophobic coating. To remove fingerprints, wipe these surfaces with a soft, lint-free cloth."

I believe you glasses lens coating is not same as iPhone's. I used the alcohol wipe on temper glass protector in iPhone, it did damage the coating. I assume this coating is same as iPhone's.
What I am thinking is the touch screen coating is way different than monitor and Lena's coating.
 
The coating on your screen shield was probably the most different and cheaper coating. Now the anti glare screen coatings are a diffent story. Alcohol should not be used on those not should ammonia or even silicone. But these threads are really useless. People are gonna do what they are gonna do and everyone has an opinion.
Also generally alcohol is less corrosive than plain water if some happens to get inside.

Yes, but it doesn't seem to bond very well, and only lasts for a few days. I bought a five pack here in Japan, and I'm on my last bottle. I don't plan on buying it again.

I use Isopropyl alcohol too. The 70% concentration stuff will kill most bacteria and viruses that use a lipid envelope.

I've used Isopropyl alcohol for years on electronics. Originally I used it to clean heat transfer compound off of CPUs and heat sinks, but it proved pretty good at getting grime off of keyboards too. The residue evaporates quickly and generally leaves no trace.

I believe Isopropyl alcohol is safe for computer, but not for iPhone and touch screen.

oleophobic coating makes finger prints look ing less clear on screen.
 
Kind of forgot how well the oleo phobic coating does work. Two days ago had my launch iPhone 5 replaced under warranty for battery bulging. Looking at fingerprint difference on replacement phone vs my iPhone 4. Such a difference.

Don't you use a screen protector? It would be easy to take care of your screen that way. The smudges and scratches would get deposited on the screen protector's surface and your screen would never get damaged. The flipside is that you have to change your protector every few months but it's cheaper than replacing your screen. And there are some protectors that don't get damaged easily. I have heard people extol "zagg" or "spiegen". I personally like Gearmaxx but you can ask people in this forum about the best screen protector. or you could search for some on ebay. 🙂
