I use an alcohol prep to clean my iPhone and Apple watch every evening when I get home.

I shower with mine on everyday, have done that since day 1 (2+ yrs ago), occasionally I wipe the surfaces with a t-shirt.

I have no problem at all getting my watch wet, but I'd be kind of concerned the about soap/shampoo (?). Is this a non issue?

Apple specifically states to try to avoid soaps and shampoos, as it weakens the acoustic membranes and seals of the watch. Although, I suspect quite a few consumers probably expose their Apple Watch to shampoos and soaps, but be quick about rinsing it off and thoroughly drying it.

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking too. I think I'll just leave mine off for shower time. That's really the only time my watch is off my wrist, is when I'm showering - or doing something that could damage the watch - then obviously I take it off.

Really all you need to do, is just use a damp microfiber cloth and wipe it down. That should be sufficient. If you need to sanitize it, just don’t apply it directly onto the watch itself.

I would think Smitty's removes the oleophobic coating....what say you?

That hasn’t been my experience. I’ve used it for years. It’s safe for all kinds of coatings. If I’m willing to use it on my expensive Crizal lenses I’m not worried about my various screens. As you can see my Crizal AR coating is still on my lenses. These selfies were taken in July and August 2020.

No issues here after 2 years... of course, to each their own

I was just about to say the same. For 3 years, no isssues and lots of cleaning. I’ve happily doused my series 2 in Soap and rubbed and rinsed and dried, and then used the watch ”expel water” function.

However, I’ve always run the water etc. down onto the side with no hole openings.

Looking at this new S6 I‘m getting, there are now holes on both sides.... doh... (See picture below of both sides of the new S6.)

What is that single hole on the crown side of the watch for?

Does anyone have a link to diagram showing what each external part / hole of the S6 watch is For?

Hope you can advise

Regards
Martin

Awesome, thanks C! 😀

I don't shower with my S5 watch on, but the other day the digital crown would not depress and was stiffer to turn. Mine is the SS gold which is really gorgeous, but some how some mung (old phographic term) looked like it had built up around the knob. I used a very small dental brush and some warm water and went around the base of the knob and that did the trick.

Good quality alcohol wipes for general cleaning and getting into the strap mounting points. Rubbing alcohol dripped into the crown to clean occasionally when it begins to get sticky 😬

Sports band will sometimes require a soft toothbrush and washing liquid on a bad day 😲
