Posting something like this is sort of begging the guys to come over and post stuff like "The horror!!11" and "AAAAGGGHHHHH MY TOP HAT IS MELTING AND ITS ALL BECAUSE OF YOOOUUUU".

What people expect from a tablet is set by the iPad..
Wrong. What people expect from a tablet is set by the conclusions a consumer makes after using the iPad, and consumers have clearly demanded more than just a phone OS on a large screen.

If andread is all that and a bag of chips, why haven't they done anything innovative? All they can do is follow Apple and true to copy. Why would anyone think that is the "truth"?

Pretty sure that desktop elements will be there.
That would be sweet. iPhone 5 with LTE and a new UI would be sweet.

Why is it that if someone likes and actually prefers an apple product, they are labeled a fanboy but if you prefer one of the Android flavours, you are not? I actually love the advertised web OS tablet, I also love iOS. I don't particularly care for Android.
You're perfectly entitled to your own opinion. There are other people who reject Android simply because they are only willing to consider Apple products, regardless of the benefits of competing products. There were other people in the thread who were talking about how ****** Android was and making other derogatory statements about it. That's who the statement was directed towards.

There are plenty of people who label Android users as fanboys, BTW.

For real?

I'll just speak the truth right now.

Apple beats Google when it comes to phones, but Google is headed in a better direction than Apple did with its first tablet.

The ELEMENTS and CONCEPTS of Android 3.0 is more of what people should expect from a tablet OS, regardless of how buggy or unpolished it is. Google can fix the bugs and tweak the design, but Apple can't expect to remain viable with an OS that is meant to be on a phone rather than a 10 inch screen.

we need to form a coallition to champion an updated iOS. i cant see why everyone wants to stick to an OS iteration meant for a much smaller device. no one wants to have apps and concurrent widgets, 2 iPhone apps running side by side, iOS styled file system, a smoother productivity workflow, etc? puzzling to say the least. no one wants honeycomb on iPad per say but and iOS iteration of it..

and consumers have clearly demanded more than just a phone OS on a large screen.

Wrong. If you want to use phrases likes like "consumers have clearly demanded," you have to show how they "clearly" have made the demand and where they voted with their wallets. Which would mean the first iPad failed after a hot start (with a ton of return rate) and the Xoom would be selling like hotcake now.

And the winner is Apple - 15million devices in 9 months and this is just the start. So, people have demanded what? Oh, those devices that haven't sold hardly any? Or the companies that can't deliver because they have to keep retooling to have a chance at 2 percent market share? Just sayin'

Tabbed Safari
Unobtrusive Notifications
A home page that displays whatever kind of information you want upon wakeup.
Ability to toggle settings such as brightness, wifi, 3G with a quick tap.

If iOS5 can do all this in June, I'll be impressed.

I would like these additions but I don't want honeycomb

The Xoom has plenty of problems that are completely unrelated to the OS. The WiFi version should have been launched with the LTE version at a price that's competitive with the 16GB WiFi iPad.

To be honest, Apple could do whatever the **** they wanted with iOS and they would still sell devices as long as the App Store stays strong in its offerings. Windows 7 would be the best OS if we were to follow the logic that you're using.

Another thread about unicorns and vaporware.

Question: How do you destroy an iPad?
Answer: Ship it with Android 3.0 Honeycomb

iPad is still miles ahead of every other tablet.

You do know what vaporware is, correct? The Xoom launched a few days ago.

Come back around St. Patty's day. Pick the cabbage leaf out of your teeth. Take a swig of green beer. Now, show us the sales figures to prove your point.

I closed my eyes and imagined utopia...The world was in total harmony and there was peace everywhere. Google no longer existed and everyone had a iMac, Air, iPad and iPhone. No goofans, no imitators, just love and happiness.

When I awoke, some idiot was still whining about retina screens.

Sounds like a nightmare. UIs wouldn't exist anymore. Just grids of icons with inertial scrolling. SJ would approve all apps for consumption. Gaming would be declared illegal.

I plan on getting the iPad 2. I also don't like Android-based products (have to state it that way, because Google doesn't really make hardware). However, there are some things that Apple could adopt from Android, such as the custom home page, and the non-obstrusive notification.

That shouldn't be too hard for them to do. BTW, the custom home page was something that was done on jail broken iPhones. That was not something created by Google.

Custom home pages weren't created by Google or the jailbreaking community. It's not like this was a new idea or something.

+1. Where did Calidude get this "consumers have clearly demanded" bull***t??? Consumers have spoken and 80% of the tablet market are clearly satisfied with their iPad.

Sorry, I tried to imagine....but for some reason I kept seeing bees....

iPad came first, and there's only one other competitor. It will take time for Apple to start feeling the sting of competition, so they can afford to relax right now and just go at a steady pace since they are a year or two ahead in terms of hardware and how it works with the software.

Once Microsoft, RIM, HP, and Google all have their tablet OS's in stores, you can fully expect Apple to hit it into full gear and churn out something that looks awfully a lot like Mac OSX on a tablet.

Where did you get that number from?

Again, iPad's ONLY competitor, a SINGLE device, has been out for a week.

Consumers don't have choice right now. They aren't even sure if they want a tablet, either.

Watch what happens when Apple has 5 other tablet OS's to compete with, and manufacturers can provide the parts and software much cheaper than Apple can.

The iPad will give way to anything that functions more like a desktop, unless it can function like a desktop as well, instead of just a big iPod Touch.

I would freaking love that. Love the ipad hardware but also love android. And $499 is tough to beat. I wonder if devs can port honeycomb on to the ipad and make it usable and a true android device, I would run to the nearest apple store and buy one!

Ok first off I will be getting an Ipad 2 95% sure here.. I'm waiting to play with both of them Xoom and Ipad2 at Bestbuy and that would be a good comparision method me thinks.

There are Apple and Androids Fanboys and those of us who are in between and really want both to be great as it will cause both parties to make better product quicker..

Who wins we all do...

I do however think this time next year Android will be in allot better place with there Tablet UI and will have as many apps as Apple does or close to it.

We are in week 2 or 3 of The Xoom release so none of us should expect 65,000 apps to choose from. Also apple was smart in keeping the Ipad the same as the Iphone as apps will play on both of them so the Ipad had a built in store with thousand of apps because of this.

I think this fall we will start to see the Quad Core version of Xoom and other tablets and Honeycomb should be getting refined and apps will very soon start flowing in for Honeycomb by the Thousands.
