You're a Mac user. Aren't you used to having to pay extra for adapters and accessories in the name of "design aesthetic" on the product itself. :p

Well said, the voice of reality speaks.

A true rarity around here.

Kudos!

Just poking fun!

Brilliant :)

The first graphic that's funny, appropriate, and not one of those stupid childish "cool story" graphics.

Yeah, that name is quite odd because HTCis coming out with a new 4G smartphone called the ThunderBolt

Guess which one will probably be more popular. :D

It looks like I am the first person to say this: The Thunderbolt symbol looks like the Nazi Party's Schutzstaffel symbol.

That Wikipedia article states, "Built upon the Nazi ideology, the SS, under Heinrich Himmler's command, was responsible for many of the crimes against humanity during World War II (1939–1945)."

Godwin’s law in action.

Metal Texture

Its probably just a strange effect from a cheap camera or poor lighting, but that surface looks nothing like the anodized aluminum on my mbp. Looks almost like a miniature version of the galvanized steel they use for fence posts and such. Just seems strange because looking at my computer, I still don't see how its possible to take a picture of that surface.

I'm sitting here under ceiling lighting and I can see the speckled look on my MBA. It's just the grain reflecting light in different directions.

In simple terms.

Do you have a display with a mini display port adaptor? You do realize that currently there is only ONE monitor available that uses that technology. I have one. Its made only by apple. The only ports it has on the back are USB ports.

If you connect the mini displayport to this display, presuming the thunder thigh technology is also embedded in this port, then please tell me how you can daisy chain from my cinema display out throuhg the USB ports at the back of teh display?

SO, if i connect my expensive cinema display to my MBP using the Mini Display Port connection, I lose the ability to use the thunder thigh interface. hence why its a stupid solution unless Apple introduce a new cinema display with thunder thigh connections at the back of the display to enable daisy chaining. Simple. Understand?

Yup, you need to buy a new display if you want to use all functionality in a new port. How is that in any way surprising?

Don't want to buy a new display? Then keep using the Thunderbolt port as a MDP port, and you've lost absolutely no functionality. You don't gain any new functionality, but how could you possibly expect to, when you have a monitor that predates the new port/standard?

I don't disagree with what you're saying, just commenting on the fact that this takes the normal level of MacRumors bellyaching to a possible all-time high.

I do - for external hard disc ( FW800 ) - though there aren't other any viable options -
* USB 2 isn't an option because its far too slow.
* Apple won't add USB3
* Apple won't add SATA either

There are plenty of USB3 hard disks and they are fairly cheap too.. a shame, we can't use them.

i have a usb3 and esata (powerd) adaptercard express and they work fine with my seagate usb3 and firewire hdds also with my fantastic drobo s.

the new 17 " modell has an expresscard slot and thats what you need

i have just ordered my new macbook pro 17 with 8gb ram and 500gb ssd
so i am happy..

dvi port - thunderbolt compatibility

i tried to read through all of the thread but i might have missed it, so my apologies if this has been asked before.

so essentially the thunderbolt port is identical to the old dvi port, right? and there are new peripherals coming that work with thunderbolt, so my question is if they are identical in shape and size does that mean that the new peripherals would then work with the old dvi ports on say my MBP (i5 2.4GHz)?

i do understand that it is a new technology and the speeds are crazy fast but surely there would/is a way that it would work, but maybe at a slower speed?

i am sorry if this is a stupid question but i not that clued up with all the new tech out there, but i am trying!

peace out...

so essentially the thunderbolt port is identical to the old dvi port, right?

No. What you're thinking of is mini-DVI, which is the old monitor port on small Macs. They've used mini DisplayPort since 2008. Thunderbolt, for some reason, is also connected to this port.

my question is if they are identical in shape and size does that mean that the new peripherals would then work with the old dvi ports on say my MBP (i5 2.4GHz)?

Your i5 MBP has mini DisplayPort, not DVI, but yes, the socket is the exact same as ThunderBolt. However, it won't work because the ThunderBolt hardware doesn't exist in your Mac.

i do understand that it is a new technology and the speeds are crazy fast but surely there would/is a way that it would work, but maybe at a slower speed?

Nope.

It looks like I am the first person to say this: The Thunderbolt symbol looks like the Nazi Party's Schutzstaffel symbol. Take a look:

Image

The pic above was taken from the Wikipedia entry on "Schutzstaffel," which you can read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schutzstaffel

That Wikipedia article states, "Built upon the Nazi ideology, the SS, under Heinrich Himmler's command, was responsible for many of the crimes against humanity during World War II (1939–1945)."

rather I'd say the logo looks exactly like the BUF logo: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_and_Circle
or even more like this Singaporean PAP logo: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People's_Action_Party
could the "Action within social/racial unity" significance here mean "action only with Apple hardware"?
