Interesting question. I got my 4S on release day last year. According to my AT&T account online, I'm already eligible for a full subsidy upgrade. So, upgrade I shall.

It's something they do every year. If you got an iPhone on or within a month or two of the release date....they let you get the new phone for the subsidized price. I've gotten every iPhone very year since the first iPhone.

iPhone 5 Thickness

Stop making it thinner and give us more battery life. They could have used the gained space and made the battery bigger. When you tether, use 4G, or use this bigger screen, you're going to draw more power. It's not all about size...

If that's the new iPhone then a major FAIL for Apple.

care to wager? i wager itll be the most successful iphone for apple.

I'm sure this has been said already (or may be not). But, ugh, I really hope this isn't the real deal. I'm fine with the thickness, screen size, etc but not with the dock connector or the movement of the headphone jack to the bottom. If this is it, I will find it hard to justify upgrading.

why would anyone be AGAINST a smaller dock connector? smaller = better.

bottom headphone jack makes most sense...if youre walking w/ the phone in your pants pocket and headphones on, when you remove the phone its right-side-up in your hand, rather than upside-down. try it.

Certainly not you hapless fanboys who blindly drink the kool aid and do whatever Apple says. I mean it's 2012 and a ton of iPhone users are still using 3G.

Me believing the iPhone doesn't need a redesign makes me a fanboy? And I am blindly drinking the Kool-Aid?

So should I call you a troll for making blind assumptions?

I don't get why people think Apple was going do some crazy redesign. These mock ups look like a beautiful revamped, more polished, more refined looking phone than previous gens. Of course it looks like a 4S, because it is an IPHONE, do newer Porsches still look like Porsches? People, if you want phones to look dramatically different every year/generation, look into buying an Android. Apple hasn't given it a major redesign because it's one of the best designed phones in the history of time. Keeping the same design but thinning it and making the screen longer to stay with the competition is SMART. If you dont like the new iPhone, keep your 4 or 4S! I'm staying with my 4S cuz I still have over a year left in my contract, but if I wasn't I'd happily get the 5.

u mean without a case ? I use a leather pouch to protect my 4S, so its not going to work,

True.. smaller = better, bt i still would be against it, as with any upgrades to Apple devices.. why would i want to replace all my accessories ?

I can see adapters coming out .... They must.. otherwise people will be annoyed. If not Apple themselves, then third party adapters.

a case has zero bearing. my phone has a case and i still put it in my pants pocket, which is the norm. pouches are not the normal so youre not a factor in their use case design scenarios.

of course there will be adapters; its old news.

Looks pretty good.
It's a proven design, along with the much revered Apple logo, it' simply more of the same.

I wasn't looking for a radical design, just something fresh as only J. Ive can do. He's a very talented designer.

A flat slab in the shape of a rectangle is most certainly not his best work. It hardly gets any more pedestrian & boring than this. Not a bit stylish.

Agree. If this is the new design - yawn.

I have never known so many, and such detailed, leaks before. Which makes me suspicious.

HTC and Samsung throw out dozens of new phone designs a year. Is this really the best that the leviathan, Apple, can do - after a whole year, with all the resources at its disposal?

Perhaps this is the new 4s Lite / Cheap - Apple's low end phone to replace the 3GS, 4 and 4s?

Perhaps the real iPhone 5 is being kept a true secret?? ;)

Look at the iPhone 4S, it easily outsold the iPhone 4. Physically they look the same. So your wager is correct, but doesn't prove anything other than what we already know. Apple tested the market by coasting & duplicating the same style of the 4, then hung an "S" on the end. The public will settle for nearly anything from Apple. The only thing they proved was the strength of their marketing hype.

By pushing out the same old look this time around, but just a few mm longer, once again the public will buy it in record numbers. It's Apple and that's the way it is, until the day it begins to fade.

That's when you'll see a new design, yet by then it may be too late. Nothing bad will happen because certain people will buy absolutely anything. Thus Apple will end up being second & still enjoying massive profits. With high gross margins Apples the fat cat for some time to come.

Didn't address my argument. Seriously though, you're still using 3G and it's September 2012. And you're finally getting a marginal upgrade with a slightly taller screen and LTE and you're going nuts over that? Fanboyism at it's worse.

I don't know. They haven't really innovated for over two years now with the iPhone 4.

What's that last innovation you feel Apple released?

What innovation have other manufacturers released that you feel Apple has missed out on?

More assumptions. You are assuming I currently own an iPhone. My turn for an assumption...you are an Android fanboy trolling in an Apple forum...

I have an S3 and a 4s actually...try again. Macbook and Windows Desktop also.

honestly probably the iPhone 4. iPad two perhaps, Retina didn't do much for it other than miss out on battery life. I think the note is a great phone though, I used one for a couple of months and Samsung really innovated with that stylus and integrating it so well with that phone. Android's notifation center was genius, something that Apple completely copied off of. Although I have a hard time saying that since it was half assed.

What else? LTE isn't really an innovation but I feel it should have been standard in phones by now. It's not so much the lack of innovation that bothers me as much as Apple releasing half-assed products for the past couple of years. iMessage was really the only notable release, hardly innovative though (bbm). 4s and iPad three have horrible batteries. OSX ML has been a terrible release so far. My macbook's battery has been halved in the same amount of usage, and no real notable upgrades.

The bottom of this phone is annoying. There is an uneven number of speaker holes on each side of the new dock connector. This goes against the "perfectionist" Apple design. It could be avoided by returning the headphone jack to the top where it belongs.

This launch is shaping up to be a real snoozer. I really hope the leaks aren't legit but it's far too late in the game.
